Effect of low level laser therapy on local bone resorption during orthodontic treatment: a randomized controlled trial/ Efecto del laser terapéutico en la reabsorción osea local durante tratamientos de ortodoncia: un ensayo clínico aleatoriamente controlado

Dominguez, Ángela; León, Pilar; Aristizabal, Juan Fernando
Evidence in LILACS | Language(s): English
The aim of this study was to assess whether the application of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) during the first stage of orthodontic treatment has an effect on local bone resorption and is detectable at the systemic level by measuring deoxypyridinoline levels (Pyrilinks) in urine. This was a randomized (1:1), double-blind, active-controlled, parallel-group trial. 28 adult patients who were going to start orthodontic treatment were randomly divided into the control group (n: 13) and the experimental group (n: 15), the latter of which received LLLT. All of the subjects underwent testing of urine samples: the first one on the day before the beginning of orthodontic treatment (T0), and the second one 5 days after bracket placement to measure Pyrilinks values (Dpd/Cr) in urin (more)

Fitoterapias en lesiones de mucosa oral: propiedades reparativas y aplicación clínica: revisión sistemática de la literatura/ Phytotherapies in oral mucosa lesions: reparative properties and clinical application: systematic review of the literature

Fuentes, Fernando; Faúndez, Felipe; Roa, Ignacio

Evidence in LILACS | Language(s): English
Copper was registered as the first solid antimicrobial material. Its availability makes it an important option as an antibacterial agent. At nanoparticle size it does not exceed 100 nm, allowing close interaction with microbial membranes, enhancing its effect even more. Copper generates toxic hydroxyl radicals that damage cell membranes of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, among the latter, Enterococcus faecalis, which are present in infected radicular canals. Synthesis of metal nanoparticles with antimicrobial properties has become a viable alternative and has promising applications in the fight against pathogenic microorganisms. Furthermore, the use of some polymers to stabilize nanoparticles increases their release time and may as well decrease the risk of ba (more)

Evaluación clínica de barniz de flúor en el manejo de la hipersensibilidad dentinaria/ Clinical evaluation fluoride varnish in the management of dentin hypersensitivity

Salazar P, Diego; Nakouzi M, Jorge

Critical analysis of graft loss and death in kidney transplant recipients treated with mTOR inhibitors/ Análise crítica da perda do enxerto e óbito em receptores de transplante renal tratados com inibidores da mTOR

Andrade, Luis Gustavo Modelli de; Tedesco-Silva, Helio
Evidence in LILACS | Language(s): English
Abstract Registry studies and systematic reviews have shown higher risk for mortality and graft loss in patients in use of mTOR inhibitors (mTORi) compared to calcineurin-based (CNI) immunosuppressive regimens. The majority of these studies pooled data from early trials using different strategies such as "de novo" combination of the high dose mTOR inhibitors with standard dose of CNI or high dose mTORi combined with mycophenolate. The large heterogeneity of these initial exploratory studies, many of them no longer in use, turns difficult any comparison with a well-defined standard of care regimen. The new strategies using concentration controlled reduced exposure of mTORi and CNI or early conversion from CNI to mTORi use have shown comparable patient and graft survival. (more)
