In 2012 Uganda established a pool of national STOP (Stop Transmission of Polio) volunteers who assist subnational staff in strengthening surveillance - detection and reporting. In addition to surveillance activities; the volunteers have built capacity of operational health workers in basic skills for routine immunization.
