RESUMO

Objective. In the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic, COVID-19 vaccines were made available to different countries. This study aimed to assess travelers' attitudes and practices toward the COVID vaccine and adverse events. Methods. A survey was conducted using a questionnaire from April 1 to June 30, 2021, among travelers who came for their COVID-19 test at the Institut Pasteur of Côte d'Ivoire.Results. A total of 527 travelers agreed to participate in this study, including 336 men and 161 women. Overall, 26% of respondents had already received their COVID-19 vaccine, while 76% of respondents responded they did not want to be vaccinated. The age of those most vaccinated (116) ranged from 25 to 64 years with a small proportion for those over 65 years (0.8%). Travelers (41) to France were the most vaccinated. All vaccinated persons (135) had a high level of education and were either Christian (89 persons), Muslim (45 persons) or animist (1 person). Adverse events related to the COVID vaccination were reported in seven individuals. These included muscle pain, fever and nausea. Conclusion.Negative attitudes towards vaccines are a major public health concern. In view of these results, for awareness raising, vaccination campaign may be focused on youthand people over 65 years of age. Public health messages containing information about vaccine safety should be tailored to address this vaccine hesitancy

RESUMO

The aim of the study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the London Measure of Unplanned Pregnancy (LMUP) among female sex workers (FSWs) in Uganda. The LMUP was translated into Luganda and adapted for use with FSWs and underwent cognitive testing and two field tests. From the final Luganda LMUP, three other language versions were created (Acholi, Lugisu and Runyakole), and preliminary field test data were collected. Final data were collected from 819 FSWs attending the Most at Risk Population Initiative' clinics. The Luganda field testing showed that there were no missing data, the scale was well targeted, Cronbach's alpha was 0.82, weighted Kappa was 0.78, measurement was unidimensional, and all construct validity hypotheses were met. Likewise, with the Acholi, Lugisu, and Runyankole translations, field testing showed that there were no missing data, the scales were well targeted, Cronbach's alpha were>0.70, and measurement was unidimensional. We concluded that the Luganda LMUP is a valid and reliable tool for assessing pregnancy planning among FSWs in Uganda and that the Acholi, Lugisu, and Runyankole versions of the LMUP also had good initial psychometric properties

RESUMO

Objectives: To determine the association between HIV infection and anthropometric measures (weight; height; midupper arm circumference and head circumference) of children aged one to five years.Method: A cross sectional descriptive study using structured questionnaire and measurement of weight; height; head and midupper arm circumference of 846 infected children and matched controls. Results: The mean weights of the controls were significantly higher than those of the infected children at all age groups (p0.005) while; the controls were significantly taller than the infected children after 49months (p

Diet therapy remains a cornerstone in the management of diabetes. Efforts must be made to lessen the difficulty experienced by diabetic patients in adhering to dietaryrestrictions. This study therefore determines the weight and household measures of cooked Nigerian staple foods per meal; according to different calorie needs. The daily calories required from carbohydrate food was based on 50of the daily calories required. Thus 50of each selected calorie level was estimated and distributed between the three main meals. The equivalent weight and household measures of each cooked staple food for each meal were estimated according to the different calories. It is expected that the cooked food weight and household measures of Nigerian staple food (as presented in this paper) will lessen the burden experienced in quantifying the cooked staple foods required by diabetic patients and other individuals requiring specific calories per day in Africa
