Incidence of neonatal tetanus five years before and after the introduction of Tetanus Toxoid vaccination Programme: Lilongwe District; Malawi

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study was to determine the incidence of neonatal tetanus after the introduction of the Tetanus Toxoid Vaccination Programme in 1983. Objectives included determining numbers of recorded cases; identify traditional and cultural practices of Traditional Birth Attendants [TBAs] which are contributing to increase/reduction of neonatal tetanus; and to identify strategies for prevention of neonatal tetanus. Results show a decrease in the incidence of neonatal tetanus since the programme was intriduced
