ABSTRACT
The ProVac Pneumococcal e-Learning Course is a practical tool designed to aid policy makers, national-level managers of immunization programs and other experts, with different base levels of knowledge, with the decision-making process regarding the introduction of conjugate pneumococcal vaccines to national schedules of immunization. This course is intended to be used as a general learning tool, or to be coupled with direct technical support provided by the ProVac team at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The pneumococcal course contains nine sections cover the following content: Home - About pneumococcal e-learning course and the ProVac Initiative; Disease - How to determine disease burden in your country; Surveillance - What surveillance activities can be conducted to determine the extent of pneumococcal disease burden and how it fits into overall disease prevention; Vaccine - Available pneumococcal vaccines and how to estimate if your country can manage the additional vaccine; Costs - Economic and cost considerations when making a decision about introducing the pneumococcal vaccine; Implementation - Essential components for effective program implementation; Advocacy - How to advocate for informed decision-making regarding pneumococcal vaccine, and resources to support doing so; Monitor - How to monitor and evaluate the impact of your immunization program; Glossary - A glossary with key terms that are introduced in the course, an annex, and resources.

An integrated cost-effectiveness model has been developed by the Pan American Health Organization’s ProVac Initiative to help strengthen national capacity to perform and coordinate economic evaluations and costing of the new vaccine introduction; This model has been developed in Microsoft Excel and has a user-friendly interface to help navigate and guide the user through 20 steps, each considered to be fundamental to a cost-effectiveness analysis.
