ABSTRACT

Anxiety is one of the most common and most important psychological reactions in patients with acute myocardial infarction which has a very negative effect on the prognosis of their disease and their physical and mental recovery period. Accordingly this study was conducted in order to compare the effects of different education methods on reducing the State-anxiety of patients with myocardial infarction. It was an experimental study. Sixty six patients with myocardial infarction hospitalized in a CCU in a hospital in Qom city were recruited by convenience sampling considering the inclusion criteria and were randomly assigned to three equal groups of face-to-face, pamphlet and CD-ROM training methods. Data were collected by Spielberg State-anxiety inventory. State anxiety was measured and compared in three groups before and after intervention. Data were analyzed by SPSS-PC [v.11.5]. The findings showed that the different training methods had significant effects on reducing the state anxiety levels of the sample [P=0/000]. However no significant difference was seen between the three experimental groups [P>0/05]. Findings suggest that different methods of reducing anxiety in patients with acute myocardial infarction are effective. So using all three methods is advisable

ABSTRACT

A three-dimensional [3D] finite volume model with a novel adjustment scheme was developed to solve shallow water equations in open channels. An explicit finite volume method was used to discretize the governing equations in a boundary-fitted structured and collocated grid system. Because a simple second-order central scheme was used for spatial discretization and due to the occurrence of high Peclet numbers in open channel flows, some treatments were needed to reduce oscillation. Thus, a special adjustment scheme designed to minimize differences in the averaged free surface elevation and flow discharge in a 3D model and 1D flow data was applied to some cross-sections. The model was applied to simulate shallow water flow in a backward-facing step, a meandering channel with 90 [degree sign] bends and 180 [degree sign] bend channel. A comparison of the model results with available experimental and numerical data illustrated that the proposed numerical procedure decreases the numerical oscillations and increases the stability of the 3D numerical model in open channel flow modeling

ABSTRACT

At present, no any vaccine or effective treatment is available for aids. According to the WHO, today Aids is an important health problem for youths. This study is done to determine the knowledge and attitude of Health college students of Bandar Abbas towards Aids. This is a descriptive study. Samples were consisting of 150 students and data collection was done through a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS software and statistical methods like frequency, mean and student T-test and considering significant values of p<0.05. Results indicated that, 17.3% of students had good knowledge, 80.7% moderate and 2.0% had poor knowledge about Aids. There was significant relation between knowledge and field of study and marriage status [p=0.07]. Most of the study groups had positive attitude regarding the transmission ways and prevention of Aids. Results showed that, only 17.3% of students, had good knowledge about Aids, therefore, necessity of conducting educational programs regarding ways of transmission and prevention of Aids in order to increase knowledge quality and quantity of students is felt

ABSTRACT

Otosclerosis is one of the causes of hearing loss in different ages, which its treatment capability with surgery is remarkable. The goal of this study is to determine the extent of clinical and audiometric correlation with tympanotomy findings. In this study, all patients' have been studied in a prognostic manner. Suspected to otosclerosis, they were received to oto-rhino-laryngology department of Imam Khomeini hospital from April 1999 to September 2003. The differentiations studied were compared with studies done in other sources and areas. Then all of these patients have been performed stapedectomy surgery to restore hearing. During three weeks after surgery, the complication prevalence and the results of the patients treatment have been recorded, and compared with other sources. According to this study, it was determined that in the society studied, the prevalence rate of the disease in women were more common than men, and the majority of the patients have been received the treatments in the third and fourth decade of their life, and the family prevalent rate was less than the statistic of the world presented. The hearing loss was more conductive type the most frequent complication after surgery has been reported, was dizziness and a high percentage of the patients received a significant hearing recovery. Results of this study indicated that early diagnosis and exploratory tympanotoy of these patients could provide adequate hearing, and prevent severe hearing loss

ABSTRACT

Background and Objective: enuresis is a problem in children. In this research the success, rate and recurrence of Imipramine, Desmopresine and conditional therapy has been studied in enuresis treatment of children

Materials and Methods: this study was done on 84 enuresis child between 7-11 years old which were selected by screening at the schools. Patients divided randomly to 3 groups: The 1st group received 25 mg of Imipramine every night. The 2nd group was treated with 20 micg of Desmopresine intranasaly every night. The 3rd group used alarm for conditioning every night. All groups were treated for one month, and 2 weeks without enuresis meaned success

Results: all physical finding and laboratory tests were normal in all patients [FBS, U/A, U/C, kidney and bladder sonography]. Patients had in average 8.5 years old. 77.3% of cases were boys and 22.7% were girls. Success rate for therapy was 71.4%, 60% and 50% in-groups 1-3 respectively. Recurrence rate 6 months after therapy was 10%, 55.5% and 25% in-groups 1-3 respectively

Conclusion: imipramine persists as cheep, available, well-tolerated and effective way of treating enuretic patients. Due to high recurrence rate, Desmopresine is just recommended as a temporary treatment
