ABSTRACT

This was a prospective study realised in the Emergency service of ophthalmology 20 Aout during 3 days. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency and intensity of pain and the quality of its assessment. A questionnaire of 85 patients more than 15 years old was completed. We collected demographic data, pain intensity evaluated by Visual Analogic Score [VAS] and Simple Verbal Score [SVS], and at last patient satisfaction. The mean age was 42 +/- 14,6 years, sex-ratio was 1,9. The prevalence of pain was 90,6%. Medical pathology was the most frequent reason 80%. High intensity pain [VAS > 6 and SVS > 2] was founded in 41 patients. After treatment, pain decreased in 63% of patients. For the unsatisfied patients, pain was under evaluated and/or under treated. Our study found a high prevalence of pain and the quality of its management was acceptable for 63%. Other similar studies are necessary so as to clarify the problematic of treatment pain policy and to increase the quality of its management

ABSTRACT

The authors report a sery of 72 cases of cervico-facial skin carcinomas all managed surgically. The aim of this study is to make an analysis of the different surgical procedures to manage these carcinomas. Whatever the surgical procedure used, 2 principles were respected: complete resection of carcinomatous process [controlled by pathological study] and immediate reparation. All the patients have a follow-up between 2 to5 years. During this period 7% of recurrence have been observed. The functional results are satisfactory because the recurrence ratio is low and is the same than the litterature data. Further more, all the cases of recurrence are of high risk. The functional and esthetic results are also satisfactory since the majority of patients are satisfied of the quality of their social reinsertion after a shocking surgery of the face
