ABSTRACT
The present study was designed to assess the effectiveness and tolerance of OZOTHINE with DIPROPHYLLIN, sugar-coated tablets, comparatively to a placebo, in patients affected with chronic obstructive bronchopneumonia with spasmodic manifestations, or acute bronchitis with bronchial obstruction. It included 48 patients [24 in the active group, 24 in the placebo group] treated at a posology of 2 tablets, 3 times a day, for 10 days. Groups were homogenous. Assessment criteria were evolution of 6 clinical signs [cough, dyspnea, rattles, quantity, quality and rheology of expectoration]. Improvement observed in the OZOTHINE with DIPROPHYLLIN tablets groups has been clearly better than that of the PLACEBO group, as regards the 6 clinical parameters, this in a highly significant way. Tolerance was judged as good in both groups

A study of cellular populations of the Bronchoalveolar fluid [B.A.L] and the peripheral blood [P.B] was done in 20 silicotic subjects. We noticed a lymphocytosis of the B.A.L compared to normal subjects, due to T-lymphocytes with an increase of theT8 and decrease to the T4 /T8 ratio. This allows to classify silicosis among those diseases with a lymphocytosis of the peripheral lung structures [sarcoidosis, berylliosis hypersensitivity alveolitis]. These data seem to indicate an immunologic inbalance following upon the inhalation of silica and leading to silicosis. A physiopathological outline is proposed. The presence of natural killer cells needs other studies to elucidate their significance in silicosis
