ABSTRACT

The methanolic extract of Phyllanthus amarus [Fam.: Euphorbiaceae] has been phytochemically screened and tested for its analgesic activity on Swiss albino mice using Hot Plate and Tail Flick methods. The extract was investigated for its antipyretic activity by yeast induced hyperpyrexia model on male adult Wistar rats. The methanol extract reveals the presence of alkaloids, tannin and flavonoid as phytochemical constituents. The extract also produced a significant dose dependent analgesic and antipyretic activity when compared with the standard drug. Thus the present findings justified the traditional use of the plant as an analgesic and antipyretic agent
