ABSTRACT

Avian influenza [AI] viruses have been isolated from a wide diversity of free-living avian species representing several orders. Since 1998, H9N2 AI outbreaks have been one of the major problems in Iranian poultry industry. In 2006, H5N1 was reported in swans in the north of Iran first, but until now there has been no official report from commercial flocks in Iran. The aim of this study was Molecular Surveillance of Avian Influenza in Bird Parks of Tehran, Iran. In this study, 100 fecal samples from different avian species of Public and Bird Parks [The avian species included Pigeon, Duck, Swan, Parrot, Crow and Sparrow] were collected in Tehran, in the central region of Iran during November and December 2009. RNA extraction and RT-PCR have been done according the WHO Instruction for detection of Influenza Type A. In 14% of samples genetic materials [RNA] were detected. Species including duck and sparrow were positive. This is the first report of AIV detection in this these species in Iran. Due to emergence of new H1N1 influenza and bird flu throughout the world and in regional countries, surveillance programs for monitoring the spread of these viruses need to be redesigned. Surveillance activities for AI in wild birds should be continued to provide further virological [subtype] and epidemiological [Phylogenic Study] information about circulating viruses

ABSTRACT

Despite advantages of exercise most employees in various countries do not exercise adequately. Transtheoretical model has been identified as a comprehensive model for behavior change and self efficacy is regarded as a fundamental structure of this model. Hence, in this study, the situation of exercise in comployees of Yazd according to the Transtheoretical Model and its relation with self efficacy have been evaluated. In this cross-sectional study, 220 employees of Yazd offices were selected by two-stage cluster sampling. In order to gather information a questionnaire with acceptable validity and reliability consisting of demographic data and constructs of model and self efficacy was used. Data analysis was performed with SPSS. In whole, 152 males and 68 females with mean age of 34 +/- 8.68 years were participated. From 220 cases, 44 ones were in precontemplation stage, 88 ones in contemplation, 30 ones in preparation stage, 16 ones in action stage and 42 ones were in maintenance stage. There were significant differences between self efficacy and variables of stages of change [P=0.0001], sex [P=0.01], and education [P=0.005] According to this study, self efficacy plays an important role in exercise behavior and any improvement of self efficacy level requires support of the related institutions such as the Physical Education Organization and universities

ABSTRACT

Rupture of the free wall of the heart is one of the dangerous complications of myocardial infarction that usually results in death of the patient. Only a few limited number of cases have been reported to have survived for a long period after myocardial infarction, free cardiac wall rupture and the following pseudo aneurysm. In this case report, a rare case of pseudo aneurysm following silent MI in a 60-year-old diabetic woman that had occurred at an unspecified period of time is reported and on referral, the patient only complained of palpitations. With timely surgical intervention, the patient has returned to normal life

ABSTRACT

Non-penetrating injuries have become one of the leading causes of death as the number of accidents involving motor vehicles iscreases every day. Dissection of the descending thoracic aorta is the most dangerous injury in trauma surgeries and because of its numerous clinical presentations it mimics various medical and surgical conditions. Paraplegia is one of its rare presentations and has been reported in only 0.3% of cases. Distinguishing this condition from other common traumatic lesions with paraplegia is very important as the treatment differs greatly. In this article, a case of paraplegia due to traumatic aortic dissection is presented
