ABSTRACT

This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of social skills training versus a problem solving approach on symptoms and social adjustment among schizophrenic outpatients. The sample consisted of 30 schizophrenic patients, 15 subjects were randomly recruited to be subjected to the social skills training and the other 15 patients were assigned to a problem solving group. Three tools were used; sociodemographic medical data sheet, positive and negative syndrome scale [PANSS] and social adjustment scale II [SAS II]. The findings of this study provided a strong evidence that both social skills and problem solving training were helpful. The patients showed an improvement on virtually PANSS measure of symptomatology and social adjustment
