ABSTRACT

In fish, pituitary hormones have been implicated in the regulation of metabolism beside their effects on gonadal activities. Male and female catfish Clarias lazera were injected with catfish pituitary extract. Samples were taken after two, four and six days of treatment. Serum alkaline phosphatase increased as a result of treatment, while serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase [SGOT] and serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase [SGPT] decreased than control fish. The results of total protein and urea revealed a significant decline; while albumin, albumin globulin ratio and creatinine were not affected by treatment

ABSTRACT

Six mature healthy trained male one-humped camels of Bahttcharry breed aged from 8 to 10 years were exposed to muscular exercise, in form of running for 30 minutes. Blood samples were collected separately from each animal before and after running and sera were separated. Serum level of urea, creatinine, total proteins, albumins, cholesterol, triglycerides, total and direct bilirubin, AST, ALT as well as AP activities were determined. The results of the present investigation revealed that muscular exercise in camel induced significant increase in serum levels of urea, creatinine, total proteins, albumins triglycerides, total and direct bilirubin, AST, as well as AP activities

ABSTRACT

Serum and seminal levels of thyroxine [T[4]] and triiodothyronine [T[3]] were evaluated and correlated with the semen quality of two groups of Friesian bulls. The first group [I] was of high semen quality while the second [II] represented bulls of moderate quality. Obtained data clarified that serum T[4] and T[3] levels were significantly higher in bulls of group I than those of group II. Serum T[4]/T[3] ratio was nearly similar in both groups. Seminal plasma T[3] contents of group I were higher than their corresponding values of group II, while T[4] concentrations of the second group were sharply greater than those of the first group. It was concluded that a reverse relationship is found between seminal T[4]/T[3] ratio and semen quality. T[3] has the upper hand in regulating semen activity. Decreased conversion of T[4] into T[3] in semen leads to an imbalance among both hormones which could be considered as a factor responsible for inhibited sperm activity

ABSTRACT

Both serum FSH and LH levels as well as their specific protein binding activity were determined during different phases of follicular development in she camels using the ELISA technique. Gonadotropins and their specific binding capacities in the serum showed certain fluctuation which match with the requirements of the functional activity of the ovaries. It was concluded that ovarian activity in she camel depends not only on the level of serum gonadotropins but also on the variations of their specific binding potencies
