ABSTRACT

A retrospective histopathological study of 100 cases of endometritis collected from 1989 to 1992 examined at the department of pathology, college of Medicine and Sadam Medical. The clinical presentation of endometritis was irregular vaginal bleeding, menorrhagia, infertility, post menopausal bleeding and pelvic pain. Chronic endometritis mostly seen in patients of the age group ranging between 30-39 years. 92 cases [88.84%] of non specific endometritis, 4 cases [3.84%] of tuberculous endometritis and bilharziasis. Mixed infections are seen in 4 cases [3.84%]. Our study is to find the relation-ship between chronic endometritis and post abortion, post delivery, post hydatidiform mole pregnancy, menopause and with the use of intrauterine contraceptive device

ABSTRACT

Immunofluorescence procedure was applied to measure thyroid autoantibody for the first time in immunology laboratory, Sadam Medical City Hospital. Antibodies to thyroid microsomal [TM], throglobulin [TG] and second colloid Ag [CA2] were studied. The technique was standardized using blood from 156 patients suffering from various thyroid diseases and 95 normal controls age and sex matched with patients. Immunofluorescence test [IF] was compared with the standard haemagglutination method [HA]. It had been found that IF was more sensitive and much cheaper than HA, as the antigen could be prepared locally in the laboratory, while kit for HA is usually imported from abroad-sources. However, application of HA for those sera which were positive by IF would be more beneficial for the patients

ABSTRACT

The study includes 226 cases of orbital tumours diagnosed at the Medical City Teaching Hospital over 15 years [1970-1984]. There were 159 [70%] malignant and 67 [30%] benign tumours. About two thirds of the malignancies were skin cancers involving the eye lids, mostly basal cell carcinomas [BCC]. Twenty three retinoblastomas has been diagnosed, followed by malignant melanomas, [10 cases], and two embryomal rhabdomyosarcomas. The most common benign tumours encountered were compound naevi, anigomas, neurofibromas and squamous cell papillomas. The histopathology as well as the differential diagnosis of these entities are discussed

ABSTRACT

In light or chronic schistosoma infections, some times difficulties arise in finding the ova directly, i.e. in urine or histological examinations, therefore, an attempt was made to study the presence of ova and intensity of infection [egg count] using tissue digestion with 5% postasium hydroxide in number of randomly selected uro-gential tissue [formalin fixed] specimens. The importance of histologoical examination and its relation to finding of bilharzial ova in tissue is discussed. Various clinicopathological aspects of the work are analysed
