ABSTRACT

Fifty-four burned hands with deep dermal burn had been treated by tangenital excision. Refinement for the technique has been described. The success of the technique is evident from the 100% graft take in 52 hands and the near normal appearance and function of the hand after one year follow up

ABSTRACT

Sixteen cases of neglected malignant ulcers of the scalp were surgically treated. With the collaboration of a neurosurgeon, we were able to irradicate the growth with a wide safety margin in the scalp and skull. An immediate reconstruction was planned and excuted. Local recurrence was met only in one case after four years follow up

ABSTRACT

The amniotic membrane was used for the dressing of 30 burned patients. Another 30 cases were treated by the conventional method of dressing and served as a control group. The use of the amniotic membrane as a biological dressing proved its superiority over the conventional group as proved by the rise in the total plasma protein and hemoglobin levels, early preparation of the raw areas, lowering of the bacterial count and higher graft take than the conventional group

ABSTRACT

Three cases of fibrosarcoma of the breast were found below the age of 40. Two cases had recurrence after lumpectomy and they were of the differentiated type and the third case was of the highly undifferentiated variety. Subfascial extended simple mastectomy was done for two cases and a latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap was mandatory for one of them. The presentation, examination, procedures and late follow up is recorded

ABSTRACT

Phage therapy was used to control pseudomonas infection in 10 cases having a post burn raw areas [10-25%]. Post phage cultures showed absence of the organism in four patients and present in six of them. Satisfactory graft take was present in six cases only and inferior in four cases. It is not practical and should be reserved for cases who are resistant to the available antibiotics and chemotherapeutic agent

ABSTRACT

Thirty-five cases of epithelioma of the lower lip were treated surgically. The clinical diagnosis was confirmed by wedge biopsy. After radical excision, the edges were pathologically examined and were clear of any malignancy. Reconstruction was made by naso-labial flap[s] very much less than 21 cases, rectangular flap [4 cases], forehead shin graft lined-flap [5 cases] and cross-lip flap [5 cases]. Unilateral therapeutic neck dissection was needed for three cases only. The results are discussed
