ABSTRACT

This study evaluated the use of subconjunctival 5-FU in the animal model. Fourteen pigmented rabbits were used, ten of them for therapy and four as controls. The therapy groups was injected subconjunctivaly with 3 mg of 5-FU daily for 14 days and the controls were injected with normal saline. The results were evaluated clinically and histopathologically Sub-conjunctival 5-FU was complicated by squamous metaplasia and keratinization of the conjunctival epithelium, and the absence of goblet cells. These changes were reversible after termination of therapy. In addition, the superior rectus muscle degeneration and fibrosis were marked in the therapy group and were irreversible

ABSTRACT

This retrograde study included 30 cases of orbital pseudotumors seen in the last 10 years in Tanta University Ophthalmic Hospital. Proptosis, diplopia, and pain were the main clinical features. CT scan was very helful in differentiating seudotumours from other infiltrative orbital mass lesions. Histopathologically, pseudotumours may be either a chronic non-specific inflammatory pattern or a pseudolymphoma pattern. The results of surgical interference were very unsatisfactory where as the response of the lesions to sterois for long periods was excellent

ABSTRACT

Oblique muscle myotomy was done in 7 cases of high myopic patients with history of retinal detachement in the other eye as a prophylactic measure and follow up for 3 years proved it safe and efficient. Discussion of relation of oblique muscle to retinal tears and other methods of prophylaxis is reported
