ABSTRACT

A comparative study of the anxiolytic effect of clobazam and diazepam was carried out using a double blind trial. Three groups of patients subjected to minor oral surgery, received either placebo, 20 mg. clobazam or 10 mg diazepam orally. Anxiety was tested by MAI and HAS tests. Psychomotor performance was tested by deletion of letter test. Clobazam proved to have an anxiolytic effect equal to that of diazepam but with more extended anxiolysis; and rapid recovery of psychomotor performance than diazepam. Clobazam is superior than diazepam for use as premedication for outpatients undergoing minor oral surgery under local analgesia. It is a good, safe anxiolytic drug

ABSTRACT

Spinal fluid and serum samples from 19 patients, with acute viral hepatitis, type B. already known to have HBs antigenemia. were tested for the detection of HBsAg by two techniques; Hemagglutination Inhibition [H.I.] and Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent assay [ELISA]. HBsAg was detected in all serum samples by both techniques while all spinal fluid samples were free of that antigen except one sample that was found to contain HBsAg by the ELISA technique only. This sample was also proved to contain occult blood as shown by the positive benzidine reaction

ABSTRACT

The effect of thiopentone, althesin, ketamine and diazepam on the IOP were studied in 60 patients with cataract and/or glucoma. Thiopentone, althesin and diazepam reduce the IOP significantly to the same extent whereas ketamine increases the IOP significantly
