ABSTRACT

An adequate blood pressure is a treatment of hypertension and it is the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality so proper therapy is essential. Combination therapy of amlodipine plus atorvastatin improved vascular compliance, an indicator of structural and functional vascular changes, and the beneficial effect on small arteries appeared to be more than additive. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and biochemical effects of once-daily optimized Amlodpine/Atorvastatin 5/10 mg [F-6] versus placebo. placebo-controlled, comparative study. This study conducted in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Karachi from July 2010 to January 2011. This was multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled, comparative study. Patients were selected from different hospitals of Orangi Town Karachi and samples were analyzed in the department of Biochemistry, University of Karachi. Patients were randomized to receive optimized Amlodpine/Atorvastatin 5/10 mg [F-6] once daily and Placebo once daily for 8 weeks. The efficacy and biochemical effects variables were change from baseline at the end of study which was evaluated. In the patients treated with optimized Amlodipine /Atorvastatin 5/10mg tablets' [F-6] alone, blood pressure reduction was lower, although significant, reaching values of 136.9 +/- 10.7 / 88.2 +/- 6.3 mmHg [p < 0.05 versus Placebo] by the end of eight weeks of treatment. Thus, the drug regimens used may be considered neutral as regards glucose and significantly reduce LDL-Cholesterol. Due to the high antihypertensive efficacy and hypolipidemic and no biochemical effects of the optimized Amlodipine/Atorvastatin 5/10 mg [F-6] it is an excellent option for the treatment of hypertension and hyperlipidemia patients, with a high potential to reduce cardiovascular risks

ABSTRACT

To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of this most important nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug by using series of 60 patients with osteoarthritis. Cross sectional study. The prospecting study was undertaken from amongst patients visiting the outpatient orthopedic department of District Head Quarter Hospital Charsadda of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa [KPK] for the period of six months from 1[st] January 2011 to 30[th] June 2011. This study was conducted on a mixed population of patients presenting with symptomatic osteoarthritis, which is relatively a common disease. Studies have shown that, the age of 40, 0% of all persons developed from mild clinical symptoms to degenerative changes in their weight bearing joints. indicates a significant therapeutic efficacy as compared to placebo, both at the 2[nd] and 4[th] week of treatment, table 3 represent the comparison of Piroxicam with placebo in the reduction of mean walking pain [hip] 2[nd] and 4[th] week of treatment on the basis of four point scale. The present study revealed sustained and significant improvement in the osteoarthritis of the knee or hip joint with Piroxicam treatment resulting in marked reduction in night-pain mean walking pain, and improved objective assessment in the functions of affected joints as compared to the findings emerging out of the use of the naproxen, aspirin and placebo

ABSTRACT

The aim of the study was to find out the frequency and histopathologic type of various testicular tumors in correlation with age of the patients in our setup. It was a retrospective, descriptive study carried out at the Department of Pathology, Peoples Medical College, Nawabshah, Pakistan. All testicular tumors diagnosed from January 1991 to December 2005 were included in the study. The clinical data and surgical pathology reports with haematoxylin and eosin stained slides were obtained from the record. All the cases were reviewed and results tabulated. The patients were divided into six age groups and the tumors classified according to the pathological classification of testicular tumors. During this period 73 cases of testicular tumors were diagnosed in the department. All cases were diagnosed as germ cell tumors [100%]; consisting of 57 [78.1%] cases of single histologic type and 16 [21.9%] cases of mixed germ cell tumors. Most of the cases presented in the 3[rd] and 4[th] decades. Seminoma was found to be the commonest tumor in 27 [37%] cases, embryonal carcinoma in 29 [27.4%] cases, teratocarcinoma in 11 [15.1%] cases, yolk sac tumor and teratoma each in 5 [6.8%] cases, embryonal carcinoma with seminoma in 3 [4.1%] cases and teratoma with seminoma in 2 [2.8%] cases. In this study the ages of the patients and the frequency and histopathological findings in testicular tumors, with few exceptions are similar to other studies from different parts of the world, confirming the worldwide similarity of these parameters
