ABSTRACT

Between September 1984 and May 1989, 15 children with Wilms'tumor consecutively admitted to the Paediatric Unit of the Children Teaching Hospital were included the study. There were nine males and six females with an age range between five months and seven years [mean 32 months]. In two [13.3%] patients the tumor was confined to the kidney [stage I], nine [60%] with more advanced local disease [stage II and Ill], three [20%] had distant metastasis [stage IV] and one [6.6%] patient with stage V According to the histopathological characteristics, 12 [80%] patients had favorable histology and three [20%] with unfavorable one. Although more than 50% of the patients presented with advanced disease, 10 [71. 3%] patients who have finished treatment are relapse free survivals for a period of 12-60 months [mean 36 months]. This result compares favorably with reports from other centers
