ABSTRACT

Families often respond to life-threatening situations with feeling of fear, anxiety and grief so this study aimed to identify and compare family needs of chronic hemodialysis clients as perceived by nurses and family members. The study included 50 family members and 50 nurses working in Armed Forces and the Main University Hospital in Alexandria. Each nurse and family member was individually interviewed. The findings revealed that relatives highlighted the importance of reassurance and their need for sufficient information about their family member as the most important needs for them, while nurses identified information as the most important need for them. An educational program was recommended to be designed for nurses to increase competence in human relations and communication

ABSTRACT

Foot problems among elderly affect their dependence and quality of life. Foot care and health education to the elderly could contribute to decrease this problem. Thus, the aims of this study were to assess the feet condition of institutionalized elderly [n=130] to apply a nursing foot care program to a group of elderly identified with risks for foot problems [n=45] and a health education program to another matched group in order to practice self foot care and to compare the effectiveness of the two methods in reducing the foot problems. The study was carried out in two residential homes in Alexandria. An interview questionnaire sheet and foot screening form were used to collect the necessary data. The results revealed that foot problems are prevalent among elderly and a significant improvement in the elderly scores of risk for foot problems for all categories was found among those subjected to nursing care program, while slight improvement but with no significant difference was found among elderly who practiced self foot care. The study reflected that the need of assistance to the elderly who need help to perform foot care and health education alone is inadequate and preferably should be joined with provision care

ABSTRACT

The work during pregnancy does not affect its outcome, but rather the nature or type of work assumed by the worker. Low birth weight and pregnancy wastage especially abortion was higher among manual workers and those whose work requires standing most of the time or exerting physical effort than for the other professions. Abnormal outcome was more frequently encountered among working mothers exposed to two or more combined hazards as chemical and physical hazards or psychological as nurses, technicians and industrial workers. The importance and positive effect of antenatal care received during pregnancy had its implication on pregnancy outcome. Working mothers who received proper antenatal care tended to give birth to normal full term babies
