ABSTRACT
A total of 72 preterm infants between 30-36 weeks' gestation, who received BCG vaccination at birth were evaluated between 2 and 4 months after vaccination and compared with 107 full term infants who were subjected also to BCG vaccination at birth. Among the 72 preterm infants, no BCG scar was found in 26 [36.1%] while no BCG scar was found in only 8 of 107 full term infants [7.48%]. This result is statistically significant. All 72 preterm and 107 full term infants were then tested with tuberculin purified protein derivative [PPD]. The test was non reactive in 26 preterm infants [36.1%] and an induration of more than 5 mm was found in 17 of them [23.6%] while in full term infants, the PPD test was negative in only 11 [10.28%], and more than 5 mm induration was found in 96 [89.72%] of them. This result is statistically significant. Considering these findings, that might be attributed to the low response of preterm infants to the BCG vaccine, routine BCG vaccination is not recommended on preterm infants at birth until larger studies have been performed

ABSTRACT
Closed locked intramedullary nailing was performed in fifteen femoral shaft fractures in fifteen male patients. Thirteen cases were simple closed fractures and only one case was infected, compound fracture treated primarily with external fixator. Static locking was employed in 12 cases and dynamic locking in 3 cases. Union and consolidation of the fracture occurred in 14 cases [93.3%]. The average mean time for consolidation was 3.6 months. Return of motion of hip and knee of the injured limb was restored completely in 13 patients usually before the end of the 5th month postoperatively. No patient had clinical evidence of thromboembolic disease or fat embolism syndrome. None of the patients developed deep infection or inequality of limb length

Thirty-two patients with post-phlebitic syndrome were evaluated clinically and by venography for the foot. The results showed a correlation between the degree of oedema, foot symptoms and the venographic findings. The venograms of the foot in severe cases showed dilatation and tortuosity of the superficial dorsal and communicating veins with loss of their valvular pattern. Thrombosis of the deep plantar veins were detected in 60% of these severe cases

Forty-Six patients with lesions in the head or neck were studied by different methods of cervical lymphography [perlingual, per thyroid or direct lymphadenography]. The lymphographic results of each case were interpreted with the clinical, operative and histological findings. The results showed that cervical lymphography can be a valuable diagnostic tool. The choice of the route of injection was clarified
