ABSTRACT

Forty animals were used at the ages of one, five, nine months and one year. They were divided into eight groups, four control and four experimental groups. The experimental groups were castrated and sacrificed 14 days after castration. The thymus and skeletal muscle were examined using some histological and histochemical procedures. It was found that castration delayed the rate of involution of the thymus and returned the thymus back to features nearly similar to those of younger animals. It was also found that castration caused marked reduction in size and number of muscle fibers. Dispersion and homogenous degeneration in some muscle fibers were observed with an increase in the amount of adipose connective tissue among the muscle fibers, especially in castrated rats of old ages

ABSTRACT

The adverse effect of diabetes induced experimentally by SZ on the testis and accessory sex organs of the male mouse was investigated. Diabetes was assessed by detecting blood glucose level, blood insulin by detecting the blood glucose level, blood insulin level in keeping a regular record of the mean body weight. Animals from both groups were sacrificed after 14, 30 and 60 days from injection. Atrophy of the testis, seminal vesicles and prostate were apparent together with impairment of testicular spermatogenesis and reduction of the number of sperms in the epididymis. Mucosal lining of the sex glands studied revealed a marked atrophy which reflected impaired levels of testosterone as well as insulin
