ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effects of attentional bias training on mood and disease uncertainty in anxious patients with coronary artery intervention treatment during transition period. Methods A total of 82 anxious patients with coronary artery intervention treatment during transition period were assigned into control group (28 cases), escape-negative-training group(27 cases) and positive-direction-training group (27 cases) by random digits table method. Patients in control group only received routine psychological counseling, while patients in escape-negative-training group and positive-direction-training group also received spot-type attentional bias training(200 trails/time,10-15 minutes/time,2 times/week, all 4 weeks in the two groups;the negative and neutral words between the probe points were 20%and 80%in escape-negative-training group, and positive and neutral words between the probe points were 100%and 0 in positive-direction-training group). All the patients were evaluated by Stroop test, Self-evaluation of Anxiety Scale (SAS), Attention to Positive and Negative Information Scale (APNIS), Profile Of Mood States (POMS) and Illness Uncertainty Scale (IUS). Results After intervention, 21.4%(6/28) was alleviated in the control group, while respective 70.4%(19/27) and 44.4%(12/27) in escape-negative-training group and positive-direction-training group (χ2=8.15, P=0.003). There were no significant differences in SAS, POMS, Stroop test, APNIS and IUS among three groups (P>0.05). After intervention, the SAS, negative emotion scores in POMS (tension-anxiety, depression-dejection, fatigue-inertia, baffling-confusion) and IUS were lower in escape-negative-training group than those in control group(Q=3.79-7.58, all P0.05). Conclusions Attentional bias training could improve the anxiety symptoms and reduce illness uncertainty in anxious patients with coronary artery intervention treatment during transition period. Escape-negative-training is more effective in reducing patients′ negative mood and alleviating anxiety symptoms than the positive-direction-training.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND:There are less reports on the evaluation of plantar pressure distribution in knee osteoarthritis patients using modern gait analysis, and moreover, the database of characteristic plantar pressure has not been established in patients with osteoarthritis. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of Chinese massage and functional exercise on knee osteoarthritis. METHODS:Forty patients with left knee osteoarthritis who were eligible for the inclusive criteria were randomized into two groups, with 20 in each group. Control group was given conventional treatment, and treatment group was given Chinese massage combined with functional exercise. Japanese Orthopaedic Association score and gait parameters were measured and compared between two groups before and at 3 months after treatment. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:After treatment, the two groups both had evident efficacy in pain relief during walking, and there was no statisticaly difference between the two groups. There was a significant difference in the knee range of motion in the patients in the treatment group when going upstairs and downstairs as wel as during joint flexion before and after treatment, but no changes occurred in the control group. After treatment, the range of motion during joint flexion was better in the treatment group than the control group, but there was no difference in the sweling reduction between the two groups. In addition, the treatment group had a higher Japanese Orthopaedic Association score after treatment than before treatment (P < 0.05), and there was no statistical difference in the control group. Gait analysis showed that there were improvements in the percentage of contact time, parameters during stance phase and peak plantar pressure in the two groups, but there was no significant difference before and after treatment. Foot axis angle in the treatment group was improved significantly, which was significantly better than that in the control group. Al the indexes in the treatment group were improved a lot, but did not reach the normal.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the mucosal structure and aberrant crypt foci (ACF) of small and large bowel in rats induced by DMH and to explore the growth and development of small intestinal tumors. Methods Thirty-four male Wistar rats were randomly divided into two groups:DMH-induced group (25 rats) and control group (9 rats). After 30-32 weeks, thess rats were performed with laparotomy, and their small intestine and large intestine were dissected. The mucosa structure and ACF were observed and recorded. The tissues of small intestine and large intestine in control group and the samples of tumor, adjacent normal tissues and ACF tissues in DMH-induced group were subjected to hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining and were used to observe histological changes by microscopy. Results The mucosa structure and histological changes of small and large intestine were normal in control group. There were 7 small intestinal tumors and 28 large intestinal tumors in DMH-induced group, respectively. The surface structures of small intestine mucosa and tumor adjacent mucosa were normal. The scattered lymphocytes infiltration was observed in small intestinal mucosa and tissues adjacent to tumor in DMH-induced group, while ACF was observed in large intestinal mucosa and tissues adjacent to tumor in DMH-induced group. Conclusions The occurrence of small intestinal tumors may be induced by some cells directly in the carcinogenesis under the role of the carcinogenic factors in small intestine mucosa with poor tumor differention and high malignancy. The development of small intestinal cancer does not follow the ‘ACF-adenoma-adenocarcinoma' model in large intestine.

ABSTRACT

We have recombined genes VvSUC11, VvSUC12 from Vitis vinifera L., and root-specific promoters of sweet potato storage protein gene from Ipomoea batatas L. Lam., named as SP1 and SP2. We have constructed a vector pCAMBIA2301-SP1- VvSUC11-SP2-VvSUC12 using pCAMBIA2301 as an original vector. VvSUC11 and VvSUC12 were under the control of root-specific promoters of sweet potato storage protein gene. We transformed the vector into KWS-9103 breeding line of Beta vulgaris L. with Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. We have established the optimal genetic transformation protocol of sugar beet as following: the explants pre-cultured for 4 days were immersed in Agrobacterium suspension of OD(600)=0.5, supplemented with 0.005% Silwet L-77, and followed by a 4-day culture on medium containing cefotaxime, then the buds were selected on medium containing kanamycin and cefotaxime. The percentage of kanamycin-resistant buds was as high as 42%. Results of PCR and RT-PCR proved that the target genes had integrated into sugar beet genome and expressed. It will lay a foundation for further studying their function in Beta vulgaris.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the differences of esophageal manometry (M),pH set-up method (P) and X-ray (X) on positioning of the 24-hour esophageal pH catheter and relative factors. Methods Fifty subjects underwent M, then pH catheter was located by P and X. The difference between methods and the relative factors such as body height, lower esophageal sphincter (LES) length etc were analyzed. The difference of less than 2 cm between two methods was accepted. Results The length between the location determined by M,Pand X and nose were (37.9 ±2.9),(40.8 ±4.4) and (40.7 ±5.3) cm, respectively. There was significant difference between P and M as well as between X and M (P< 0.01 ). The coincidence rate was 62.0%(31/50) between P and M;84.0%(42/50) between P and X;and 58.0%(29/50) between X and M. Compared with P,M was (2.9 ±3.9) cm nearer to the stomach. Age, body height and LES length were main factors which affect the difference between P and M (P< 0.01 or < 0.05),body height and LES length were main factors which affect the difference between X and M (P<0.05 or <0.01). Conclusions Compared with M, the location determined by P is nearer to stomach. The location of X is varied. Body height and LES length are main relative factors.

ABSTRACT

Objective Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) is an important phospholipid component in the cell membrane and is involved in the formation of membrane asymmetry. PE is exposed on the cell surface with phosphatidylserine during apoptosis. However, the effects of PE on cell apoptosis are not clear. In this study, we investigated effects of PE on apoptosis in human cervical cancer HeLa cells. Methods HeLa cells were used as the experiment material, and were divided into five groups: blank PE, respectively. The cell growth was tested by MTT assay; the cell cycle and apoptosis were analyzed using flow cytometry. Results Compared with the control group, PE inhibited the growth of HeLa cells in all the treatment groups in dose- and time-dependent manners, and induced the apoptosis, but did not change the cell cycle. Conclusion PE inhibits the growth of HeLa cells by inducing the apoptosis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the mechanisms of apoptosis induced in Human leukemia cell line K562 by the combination of indole-3-acetic acid and horseradish peroxidase. Methods Human leukemia cell line K562 were exposed to indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) at 20, 40, 60, 80 or 100 mol/L and horseradish peroxidase(HRP) at 1.2 g/mL for varying times. MTT assay was applied to detect the cell proliferation. Flow cytometry was performed to detect the arrest of cell cycle. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay was used to measure apoptosis. 2, 7-dichlorofluorescin diacetate (DCFH-DA) uptake was measured to determine free radical by confocal microscope. Content of malondiadehyde (MDA) and activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) were measured by biochemical methods. Results IAA/HRP initiated growth inhibition of K562 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Flow cytometry revealed that cell cycle arrested at G1/G0 after 24 hours treatment. After 72 hours treatment, apoptotic rate of 100 mol/L IAA group increased to 43.9%, which was 5 times that of control(P<0.01). Content of MDA and activity of SOD increased respectively in treatments compared with control. Meanwhile, IAA/HRP stimulated the formation of free radical, which was increased by IAA concentration-dependently. Conclusion The combination of IAA and HRP can inhibit the growth of Human leukemia cell line K562 in vitro by inducing apoptosis which is associated with the increase of free radical. The combination of IAA and HRP might be a promising chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic agent against human leukemia.

ABSTRACT

[Objective]To compare the differences in using Ponseti method treating congenital clubfoot (CCF) patients older than six-month and younger than six-month of congenital clubfoot(CCF). [Method]Five hundreds and forty-four feet in 378 cases of CCF were treated with Ponseti method. According to the age differences, they were divided into older infancy group (﹥6 month, 227 feet in 157 cases and younger infancy group(≤6 month,317 feet in 221 cases). The deformation degree of CCF was evaluated by the Pirani scoring system. A scoring of 0-0.5 was regarded as being excellent. For each group, we evaluated the percentage of excellence result according to the Pirani score, the number of casts used, and the percentage of percutaneous achillotenotomy. The result was compared between the two groups. [Result]The excellence rate showed no significant differences between the two groups (P﹥0.05). Both the number of casts used and the percentage of percutaneous achillotenotomy in the younger infancy group were more than that in the older infancy group. There was obvious difference between the two groups (P
