ABSTRACT

We report a case of a 48-year-old female patient who presented with erythema nodosum of both legs with no obvious etiology. In spite of a normal chest radiograph, a computerized tomographic scan of the thorax revealed posterior mediastinal lymphadenopathy. Lymph node and right lung biopsies were taken through right mediastinotomy and the histopathological report was consistent with sarcoidosis

ABSTRACT

To describe the epidemiology of lower limb amputations in the northern part of Jordan. Between 15 July 1997 and July 2000 this study was conducted at Prince Rashed Ben AL-Hassan hospital in the north of Jordan during the period. The medical record system for amputees in the limb fitting service was reviewed. During the study period, 235 amputees were recorded. Male to female ratio was 3:1 the mean age was 38.6 years. The dominant age group was 20-29 years. The traps- tibial was the leading level of amputation [59.1%]. The most common cause of amputation was trauma. [51%], followed by DM [32.3%]. Mine blast explosion was the leading type of trauma accounted for 68.3% of the traumatic amputees. The number of amputees in the north part of Jordan was considerable and presented greater similarities with eastern countries. Trauma was the leading cause of amputations especially mine blast explosion, which is preventable. This study indicates the demand of limb fitting and rehabilitation services in the northern part of Jordan
