ABSTRACT

Bronchogenic carcinoma was studied in two categories; a retrospective study of [440] cases for the period 1982-1992 inclusive, and a prospective study of [55] cases from July 1993 through 1994. The mean age of patients is [61.9] year. The male to female ratio is 4.4:1. Histologically, squamous cell carcinoma is the most frequent type [40.2%]. Adenocarcinoma is found to be the second most frequent type [27.6%] followed closely by small cell carcinoma [27.2%]. Large cell carcinoma is the least frequent type [4.2%], 0.6% of the cases are unclassified carcinomas. It is concluded that squamous cell carcinoma is still the most frequent histological type of lung cancer
