ABSTRACT

Anaplastic large cell lymphoma [ALCL] is a distinct pathologic entity with characteristic morphologic, im-munophenotypic and cytogenetic features. Obstructive symptoms are rare presentation of ALCL. We report a 16-year-old boy who initially presented with dysphagia. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed severe stenosis with an infiltrative process starting from 24 cm of incisors in lower esophagus Esophageal mucosal biopsy demonstrated lymphomatous involvement that ancillary tests confirmed the diagnosis of ALCL, ALK [kinase-positive], and PAX5 positive. The patient responded to CHOP-based chemotherapy. This case illustrated an unusual presentation of primary Non Hodgkin lymphoma of esophagus

ABSTRACT

Background and Aim: Changes in the normal posture of different parts of the spine can negatively influence the balance control. Because of deformities such as scoliosis, lordosis and kyphosis in spine alignment, line of gravity does not pass from predetermined points, and the body will oscillate. The purpose of the current study was to compare the postural control ability in 10-12 years old boys with spinal sagittal plane deformities

Material and Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, after the primary screening and spine kyphosis and lordosis measurement in 417 students, a sample of students with deformity [n=88, mean age: 11.257 years, mean weight: 49.147 kg, and mean height: 155.58 cm] were randomly selected and equally distributed in 4 groups of hyperkyphosis, hypokyphosis, hyperlordosis and hypolordosis. Amount of spine curvatures were measured by flexicurve, and static and dynamic balance were measured by single leg balance test and star excursion balance tests respectively. Using SPSS version 16, data analysis was performed by ANOVA and Bonferronii tests

Results: Results showed lower static and dynamic postural control in hyperkyphosis group compared to hypokyphosis and hyperlordosis groups. Also, we found a significantly higher static and dynamic postural control in hyperkyphosis group in comparison to hypolordosis group, but there was no significant difference between hyperlordosis and hypolordosis groups [P>0.05]

Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, the effect of hyperkyphosis was more than that of hyperlordosis. But the effect of hypokyphosis on postural control was less, compared to hypolordosis

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Faculty members' needs to information and their awareness towards these needs, is of special importance. So that, this study was performed to determine the priority of faculty members' informational needs and their method of access to information in order to improve the efficacy and the procedures of supply, collection, and organization of information in informatics centers and libraries of the university

Methods: In a descriptive cross sectional study in the year 2007, all faculty members of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences [616 faculty members in 60 educational departments] were studied. Data was gathered using a valid and reliable researcher made questionnaire. Then, the data were analyzed by SPSS software using descriptive statistics and Spearman correlation coefficient

Results: According to the findings, the majority and the most important priorities of information resources included: print books, print journals, and specialized databases. The most familiarity with and the most applicable methods of access to information were electronic mail, workplace library, home page of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, search engines, and free on line medical databases. There was a correlation between easy access to information in workplace's library, the coverage of needed information resources, and population's satisfaction with the coverage of needed information resources in school libraries and their usage

Conclusion: Considering the limited usage of libraries' electronic and new resources by faculty members, it is recommended to plan for faculty members' education which may lead to the more use of new information resources

ABSTRACT

We face with the globalization and increasing development of communication in all aspects nowadays. As a result researchers and specialists should proceed to more communication and scientific collaboration and co- authorship, because specialists can hardly overcome all problems in research process. The main object of this paper is to identify collaboration rate among researchers in Isfahan University of medical sciences' related research center in carrying out research project during 2001-2006. In this survey, scientometric methods were used. Statistical population was all research projects and researchers and approved research centers of Isfahan University of medical science cheklists [planning by specialists] and analyzed in a excel database. The mean of researchers for every project is 4.47- [Mohammad Ali Nilfroosh Zadeh] with 22, [Sedighe Asghari] and [Gholam Ali Naderi] with 19 research projects had the most ones among IUMS related research centers' researchers during 2001-2006. Identifying the activist majors and researchers can help other to get familiar with them and utilize their experience through scientific collaboration

ABSTRACT

The medical world needs access to the most recent findings of the researchers in the field every minutes. Electronic journals provide a useful and fast mechanism for distribution of scientific information. Providing free-access electronic journals are a complimentary resource for libraries, which should provide the best and fastest access to the information for researchers. This study assess citing free medical electronic journals of the DOAJ database in the Iranian peer-reviewed journals of the medical science universities. This is a descriptive survey to analyze the citations in the scientific-research journals of the type one medical universities in Iran during 2005 and 2006, specifically analyzing citing to 369 free access electronic journals of the DOAJ database. Data were collected using two different checklists, one for the number of citations in Iranian journals and the other for the collecting citing free access journals of DOAJ database in the Iranian scientific-research journals. The checklists' validity was approved by professionals and the data were analyzed by SPSS software. Citing to free access electronic journals is less than one percent and it didn't grow in 2006 compared to 2005. Darn Journal published by Pharmaceutics Faculty of the Tehran Medical Science University and Iranian Urology Journal published by Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences had the highest rate of citations from free access medial electronic journals. Also, public health and medicine subjects used more citations from the free access electronic journals compared to other medical subjects. From among 369 free access electronic journals, BMC Public Health with 2 citation about public health had the highest rate. It sounds necessary to find free accessed electronic journals available in libraries and medical information centers and introduce them to the medical society in various ways. Because the mission of libraries in educational, health care and medical institutions is to facilitate rapid access to the information researchers need

ABSTRACT

Increasing costs in almost all of the governments and organizations persuade them to analysis their services in financial and economic dimensions. Because of increasing unnecessary costs, community is limited to achieve social effective goals for health services. We surveyed cost accounting of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences database to assess its cost benefit. Current research was descriptive and retrospective. Data collection was carried out through a checklist considering human resource expenditure, consuming material expenditure, capital material depreciation expenditure and Purchase fee. Then the average of expenditure was compared with the amount of article use in each database [Proquest, Blackwell, Springer, Ovid, and Elsevier]. Among databases, Elsevier had the most and Springer had the least cost benefit. Manager of informatics system must use management techniques, such as cost analysis method, to make the best decision to decrease the costs
