ABSTRACT

To determine the significance of nipple to lesion distance and its variability in mammography. The Nipple to Lesion Distance [NLD] was measured in two mammographic views of 53 benign and 47 malignant breast lesions. The difference between maximum and minimum nipple to lesion distance [maximum difference] was calculated for each lesion The mean maximun difference for the benign lesions was 13.7 mm, and 3.53 for the malignant lesions A maximum difference in NLD greater than 10.0 mm indicates mobility of the lesion and is strongly suggestive of a benign process
