ABSTRACT

The phytochemical investigation of Hammada elegans [Bunge] Botsch family Chenopodiaceae, afforded six coumarins identified as scopoletin, scopolin, umbelliferone, xanthotoxol, isooxyimperatorin and esculetin, and two flavonoids [quercetin and quercetin 7-O- rhamnoside]. The identification of these compounds was achieved by m.p., UV, EI-MS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and co-chromatography with authentic references. Quantitative estimation of total flavonoids using spectrophotometric method as well as mineral analysis were carried out. The anticoagulant activity of the ethanolic extract on rats showed a significant effect. The cytotoxic activity against human tumor cell lines U251 and MCF7 [brain tumor and breast carcinoma cell lines, respectively] proved no cytotoxic activity

ABSTRACT

Six coumarins; namely, bergapten, imperatorin, xanthotoxin, xanthotoxol, isoscopoletin and esculetin, were isolated from the ethereal extract of the aerial parts of Cyperus alopecuroids. The identification was performed by MP, spectroscopic analysis, IR, UV and 1H-NMR. The extract has a good activity against the microorganisms

ABSTRACT

Six main flavonoids [quercetin, quercetin 3-0-beta-D-glucoside, quercetin 3-0-beta-D-galactoside, isorhamnetin 7-alpha-L-rhamnoside isorhamnetin 3-0-alpha-L-rhamnosyl [1-6] beta-D-glucopyranoside, isorhamnetin 3-0-beta-D-apio-furanosyl [1-2] beta-D- galactopyranoside] were isolated from the alcoholic extract of Vernonia galamensis ssp. Galemensis var. Petitiana [A. Rich] M. Gilbert [Compositeae]. Their identities were established by 1H and 13C-NMR. A quantitative estimation of the total flavonoids in the alcoholic extract by spectrophotometric method was also accomplished. The pharmacological activity of the extract showed a remarkable antiulcerogenic activity
