It refers to the inflammation of the cervix which may be acute or chronic and vaginal discharge is the commonest complaint in patients of patients of cervicitis. Objectives: The aim of the study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of Unani formulation in the management vaginal discharge due to cervicitis. Methods: A randomized observational study was carried out at the Department of Amraz e Niswan wa Atfal, AKTC, AMU, Aligarh. Thirty (n=30) patients of 18-40 years of age with chronic cervicitis were selected and intervened with Unani formulations prepared from Joshanda Mazu (Quercus infectoria) administered locally in the form of intra vaginal tampon (pessary) for 7 consecutive nights after menses. Pre and post treatment analysis was done on subjective and objective parameters and were assessed by paired t-test. Result: This Unani formulation showed highly statistically significant improvement in all the subjective (p<0.001) and objective (p<0.001) parameters of chronic cervicitis after completion of treatment. Conclusion: The study results suggest that the trials formulations are quite effective and hence can be used as an alternate therapy in the management of cervicitis. ABSTRACT

Background: Unani system of medicine is based on the theory of Mizaj which is considered as the basics of Unani therapeutics. Mizaj is an Arabic word which means Aamezish, Ikhtilat or Tabiyat. In English language, the word Temperament is used to describe Mizaj which is derived from the latin word Tempero, which means to mix together. Every individual has its own unique temperament hence reacts to various internal and external stimuli viz. drug, climate, food, emotions, body reactions etc. differently according to temperament he or she possess. Hence, Mizaj plays an important role in assisting specific treatment to the patient of any disease. Cervicitis is considered as one of the most common gynaecological complaints during reproductive age in which patient experiences foul smelling vaginal discharge, lowback pain, dysuria, dyspareania, suprapubic pain etc. Since, in Unani system of medicine, diseased condition is produced due to the imbalance among the quantity or quality of four humours present in our body i-e Khilt-e Balgham, Khilt-e Dam, Khilt-e Safra,Khilt-e Safra, and Khilt-e Sauda, hence basic principle of treatment is according to particular Khilt whose excess is considered as the cause of that particular disease. Methods: Ancient Unani physicians including Hippocrates, Ibn SIna And Majusi, relate cervicitis with the domination of Khilt e Damvi. This paper presents the observational study carried out in the Department of Amraze Niswan Wa Atfal, A.K.T.C, Aligarh. It has been conducted on the patients of cervicitis. Results: From the present study, it was observed that maximum number of patient i.e. 30 (50.0%) belongs to Damvi Mizaj, followed by 18(30.0%) of Safravi Mizaj and 12(20.0%) of Balghami Mizaj. None of the patient is of Saudavi Mizaj.   Conclusions: These findings suggested that cervicitis is likely to be predisposed by the Damvi constitution.

ABSTRACT

Uterine prolapse is defined as when the uterus slips down into the vagina from its normal position, and in severe cases, outside the vagina. It is one of the most distressful gynaecological problem commonly seen among the menopausal and post-delivery women mainly due to the weakening of pelvic floor muscles. Pelvic floor muscles provide support or act as a “ floor” for the abdominal viscera including the rectum and constrictor or continence mechanism to the urethral, anal and vaginal orifices (in females). Weakening of these muscles not only lead to uterine prolapse, but may also lead to the prolapse of other pelvic organs as a complication that is Cystocoele (prolapse of Bladder) and Rectocoele (prolapse of Rectum). Pelvic floor exercises also called as Kegel exercises mainly works on strengthening the muscles and the ligaments that support the female genital tract which become slack and atonic, and improves their general muscular tone. It also increases the thickness of the vaginal wall and lubrication after menopause. Here, I will discuss briefly about the uterine prolapse, and mainly the importance and process of doing pelvic floor exercises, since it has been mentioned that initial degrees of uterine descent can be managed by it. Need of this paper is to spread the awareness about the conservative treatment, rather than looking for surgery.
