ABSTRACT
Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the safety and efficacy of misoprostol in termination of missed miscarriage under 24-weeks gestation
Methodology: This descriptive observational study was conducted on 100 cases of missed miscarriage in the Department of Gynecology, Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad for the period of one year i.e. from 1[st] January 2007 to 31[st] December 2007. Women with missed miscarriage of less than 24-weeks of gestation requiring termination of pregnancy were included in this study whereas Women with other types of miscarriage like incomplete, threatened miscarriages, gestational trophoblastic disease, liver disease and disturbed coagulation profiles were excluded from the study
Results: Mean age of the patients was 26.79+/-4.82 years. Fifty three [53%] women had no previous history of miscarriage. Average gestational age was 14.75+/-4.96 weeks. Forty four [44%] patients needed surgical treatment while 56% had complete miscarriage with medical [misoprostol] treatment
Conclusion: Misoprostol has proven to be a safe and effective method for the management of missed miscarriage

Hepatitis B and C are serious global public health problems. The objective of this study is to assess the knowledge regarding HBV and HCV transmission, risk factors and prevention among women attending the OBS/GYN clinic. Descriptive observational study. 1[st] January 2012 up to 31[st] of December 2013. Gynae Department Lady Dufferin Hospital Karachi and Al Tibiri Medical College Isra University Karachi campus. Total 123 patients were included in study. All the patients who were admitted during the study period from gynecological surgery were included in the study while gynae patients who were managed conservatively were excluded from the study. Blood testing for HbsAg and Anti HCV were done through ELISA. Data was analyzed through SPSS version 11. Total 123 women were included in the study. Only 56[45.5%] of women and 61[49.5%] of women knew that hepatitis B and C affects which part of body respectively.59 [47.9%] and 22[17.8%] women knew that hepatitis B and C are major health problem respectively. 89[72.3%] and 69[56%] of women knew that Hepatitis B and HCV can be transmitted by blood and blood products respectively.45 [36.5%] and 54[43.9%] women answered correctly regarding transmission of HBV and HCV from mother to child respectively 69[56%]. 41 [33.3%] women and 35[28.4%] women answered correctly regarding treatment of HBV and HCV through medicines. Only 51[41.4%] and 56[45.5%] women knew that vaccine is available for HBV and no vaccine is present for HCV28 [22.7%]. Source of information was media in 62[50.4%] women, relatives and friends in 40[32.5%] women and literature in 21[17%]. Our study found that the knowledge about hepatitis B and C among women attending OBGYN clinic is inadequate

To find out awareness about menopause and HRT in the postmenopausal women. Cross sectional and observational study. Gynaecological Department of Al Tibiri Medical College Isra University, Karachi Campus and Lady Dufferin Hospital Karachi. May 2013 to December 2013. Method: Total 150 women were selected in the study. All the cases were undergone interviewed after taking consent form. All the data regarding residential status and awareness about menopause and HRT, along socioeconomic characteristics were entered on Performa. The mean age of respondents was 52.6 +/- 8.5 years.Mostly women were belongs with rural areas 68%, with poor socioeconomic condition 63%and uneducated 51%.In the majority 65% cases were documented without awareness regardingmenopause and HRT. In the conclusion of this study mostly women lacked awareness regarding menopause and hormone replacement therapy. Mostly ideasof the women concerning menopause are such as; it is natural thing and without medical association
