ABSTRACT
O Objetivo desse estudo foi investigar o impacto das alterações de deglutição na qualidade de vida de idosos institucionalizados. Aplicou-se uma avaliação de motricidade orofacial, o mini-exame de estado mental e o questionário Quality of Life in Swallowing Disorders - SWAL-QOL. Observamos que, embora as alterações de deglutição causem impacto na qualidade de vida dos idosos, esses não têm consciência do problema, entendendo o mesmo como uma alteração inerente ao processo de envelhecimento.
The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of swallowing disorders on quality of life of institutionalized elderly. Applied an evaluation of orofacial myofunctional evaluation, the mini mental state examination and the questionnaire Quality of Life in Swallowing Disorders - SWAL-QOL. Although changes in swallowing cause major impact on quality of life of older people, these elderly are unaware of this problem, understanding it as a change inherent to the aging process.
