ABSTRACT

El objetivo de esta investigación fue determinar el riesgo biológico cariogénico en sujetos con Síndrome de Down. Se seleccionó una muestra de 8 individuos entre 12 y 17 años. Se realizó un examen clínico a cada sujeto, donde se evaluaron diversos factores generadores de caries en la cavidad oral, además de realizar exámenes de laboratorio de características de su saliva y encuestas de hábitos dietéticos a los padres. Dentro de los factores analizados en la cavidad oral, encontramos, diastemas, historia de caries, entre otros. Dentro de los exámenes de laboratorio se determinó conteo de Estreptococo mutans y Lactobacillus, Ph, y capacidad Buffer. Tanto el conteo de ambas bacterias, como el Ph inicial y la capacidad Buffer, arrojaron resultados correspondientes a un nivel cariogénico bajo. Una vez analizados todos los factores a evaluar se concluyó que los niños con Síndrome de Down estudiados poseen un Riesgo biológico cariogénico bajo.


The aim of this research was to determine the biological risk cariogenic in subjects with Down syndrome. A sample of 8 individuals between 12 and 17. Clinical examination was performed on each subject, which evaluated different factors of caries in the oral cavity, in addition to laboratory tests for characteristicsof saliva and dietary surveys to parents. Among the factors discussed in the oral cavity, we find, diastema, history of caries, among others. In laboratory tests a count was determined of Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus, pH and buffer capacity. Counts of both bacteria, the initial pH and buffer capacity, corresponded to a low cariogenic level. After analyzing all the factors to be evaluated it was concluded that children with Down syndrome studied have a low cariogenic biological risk.
