ABSTRACT

We read with interest the article "The Impact of Integrating Oral Health Education into a Medical Curriculum," and we found it very interesting how Park et al. [ 1 ] noted that "the oral health education session contributed to an increase in student awareness and understanding of oral health." Indeed, oral and dental problems are commonly seen in daily general medical practice. A number of patients come to see the physician with dental and oral complaints, and if the general medical practitioner lacks oral knowledge, he/she might not correctly give the patients correct instruction. In Thailand, dental skills are a part of the required skills for newly graduated physicians. During medical study, students have to take a course in basic dental care [such as dental extraction]. In the present report, Park et al. assessed only the concern or knowledge, but did not assess the exact skill of the students. Indeed, the ability to assess oral and dental problems by general practitioners has been pointed out previously [2]. Since the oral realm is an important part of human beings, a physician who provides holistic care should have a good basic skills regarding oral health.

ABSTRACT

The most recent new emerging infection is the H5N6 influenza virus infection. This infection has just been reported from China in early May 2014. The disease is believed to be a cross species infection. All indexed cases are from China. Of interest, the H5N6 influenza virus is the primary virus for avian. The avian H5N6 influenza virus in avian population is a low virulent strain. However, the clinical manifestation in human seems severe. In this mini-review, the authors summarize and discuss on this new emerging influenza.

ABSTRACT

The drug searching for combating the present outbreak of Ebola virus infection is the urgent activity at present. Finding the new effective drug at present must base on the molecular analysis of the pathogenic virus. The in-depth analysis of the viral protein to find the binding site, active pocket is needed. Here, the authors analyzed the envelope glycoprotein GP2 from Ebola virus. Identification of active pocket and protein druggability within envelope glycoprotein GP2 from Ebola virus was done. According to this assessment, 7 active pockets with varied druggability could be identified.

ABSTRACT

Dengue is an important tropical viral infection. It can present with acute febrile illness with possible hemorrhagic complication. Since it is a common infection in the tropical world, concomitance with other diseases can be expected. An important consideration is the co-presentation of dengue with HIV infection. In this specific report, the authors summarize the clinical profiles of dengue patients with HIV infection. Based on the present study, it can be seen that clinical profiles of dengue in any group of HIV infection is not different.

ABSTRACT

Objective:Varicella is an important viral infection. It can present with acute febrile illness with rash. In some case, the rare complication as varicella pneumonia can be seen. Methods: This work is a retrospective study. The meta-analysis of previously documented papers was done. Results: The clinical characteristics of documented Thai cases were summarized and presented. Conclusions:In this specific report, the authors summarize on the previous reports on varicella pneumonia from Thailand, a tropical country where high rate of varicella infection can be observed.
