ABSTRACT

Idiopathic Granulomatous Mastitis (IGM) is an uncommon benign inflammatory disorder of breast. Peri-ductal mastitis is thought to be the initial inflicting factor for its development. IGM usually presents as painful swelling, abscess or sinus/fistula in breast. There are no specific findings on ultrasound or mammographic imaging, and moreover it looks BIRADS-IV on mammography. Histopathology provides the final diagnosis. Here authors report a case of bilateral IGM which was successfully treated with surgery.

ABSTRACT

Warthin's tumors are the second most frequent benign tumors of the parotid gland representing 6-10% of all tumors of the salivary glands. Multicentric Warthin's tumors are more common than any other salivary gland tumor. Most of the multifocal Warthin's tumors are unilateral, whereas bilateral Warthin's tumors are much more uncommon; bilateral Warthin's tumors are metachronous with few synchronous cases having been described in the literature.

ABSTRACT

About fifty percent of all Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas are primary extranodal non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL). Primary non Hodgkin's lymphoma of the breast is rare. Bilateral involvement of the breasts is even more rare. We present a case of a 40 year old woman presenting with bilateral breast lumps diagnosed on Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology[FNAC] as primary non hodgkin's lymphoma[PNHL].

ABSTRACT

In the present study, the evaluation of the amount of the tear production, the stability of the tear film and the condition of the conjunctival surface by the use of impression cytology in the diabetics and the non diabetic individuals was done to detect the possible tear film anomalies in the Type 2 diabetic patients. We performed Schirmer 1 test, TFBUT (Tear film break up time) and CIC (Conjunctional Impression Cytology) on each subject in both groups. The mean values for Schirmer 1 test, TFBUT were significantly decreased in diabetes patient as compared to healthy controls. The CIC revealed pronounced degree of metaplasia with loss of goblet cells in diabetic patients. We found decreased tear production, unstable tear film and squamous metaplasia in diabetic patients.

ABSTRACT

Histoplasmosis presenting primarily as laryngeal infection is relatively uncommon and can be mistaken for papillomatosis or even carcinoma of the larynx. We report a case of localized form of histoplasmosis which is extremely rare. It was apparently a primary infection of the larynx with no other systemic involvement. A 20 year old male presented with history of difficulty and pain during swallowing. Indirect laryngoscopy revealed a growth in cricoid region. Histopathological examination of the biopsy material revealed histoplasmosis which was confirmed by using special stains for fungi (Gomori's methanamine and PAS).
