ABSTRACT

Fabrication and evaluation of the Isoniazid loaded sodium alginate nanoparticles (NPs) was main objective of current investigation. These NPs were engineered using ionotropic gelation technique. The NPs fabricated, were evaluated for average particle size, encapsulation efficiency, drug loading, and FTIR spectroscopy along with in vitro drug release. The particle size, drug loading and encapsulation efficiency of fabricated nanoparticles were ranging from 230.7 to 532.1 nm, 5.88% to 11.37% and 30.29% to 59.70% respectively. Amongst all batches studied formulation F-8 showed the best sustained release of drug at the end of 24 hours.

ABSTRACT

Acoustic signals play an important role in the lives of birds. Almost all avian species produce vocal signals in a variety of contexts either in the form of calls or songs or both. In the present study different types of vocal signals of the tropical avian species Pycnonotus cafer were characterized on the basis of their physical characteristics and context of production. This species used six types of vocal signals: contact signals, roosting signals, alarm signals, twittering signals, distress signals and begging signals. Two types of alarm signals are produced based on predation pressure. These signals are dissimilar in all physical characteristics except for dominant frequency. Although alarm signal type I and roosting signals are phonetically similar, they have completely different sonogram characteristics.

ABSTRACT

Histochemical distribution of lactate, isocitrate and succinate dehydrogenases in normal oral epithelium and in well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of cheek region was studied. Lactate dehydrogenase, isocitrate dehydrogenase, and succinate dehydrogenase activity was found to be more in the malignant cells. Succinate and lactate dehydrogenase presented a conspicuous pattern in which the cells located at the periphery of the malignant sheets in well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma showed moderate to intense activity as compared to cells in the central portion. The results are discussed and it is suggested that the enhanced glycolysis and subdued function of the tricarboxylic acid cycle is not a universal criterion during malignancy as reported in the previous investigations.
