ABSTRACT

Schwannomas are neurogenic tumors, which are among the most varied tumors with respect to morphology, clinical associations, and presentations; they occur in a wide variety of sites. The uterine cervix is a rare site of occurrence and only 15 cases of schwannomas of the uterine cervix, including 5 benign and 10 malignant cases, have been reported to date. Thus, schwannomas of the uterine cervix may pose diagnostic difficulty. Here, we report a case of benign schwannoma of the uterine cervix in a 37-year-old female, who presented with vaginal spotting.

ABSTRACT

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma [ESCC] is one of the lethal cancers with a high incidence rate iri Asia. Many genes including cyclin Dl and pi6 play important role in its carcinogenesis. We aimed to analyze the expressions of cyclin Dl and pi6 with the various clinicopathological characteristics of ESCC. We examined 30 biopsy samples of ESCC for cyclin Dl and p!6 protein expressions using immunohistochemistry. Immunointensity was classified as no immunostaining [-], weakly immunostaining [+], weak immunostaining [H-] and strongly positive immunostaining [+++]. Out of the 30 cases, positive expression of cyclin Dl was detected in 26 cases [86.7%]. The percentage of tumors with invasion to the adventitia [88.2%], lymph node metastasis [87.5%], and tumors which were poorly differentiated [92.9%] were higher in cyclin Dl positive tumors than in the cyclin Dl negative tumors. However no significant association was found between cyclin Dl expression and the different clinicopathological parameters. There were 22 cases of ESCC [73.3%] which showed negativity for pi6. The percentage of tumors with invasion to the adventitia [82.4%] and poorly differentiated tumors [92.9%] were higher in the pi6 negative tumors than in the pi6 positive tumors. There was significant association between the histological grade and p16 expression [p=0.012]. However, there were no significant association with regard to site, size and lymph node status of the tumors and p 16 expression

ABSTRACT

Cellular angiofibroma, first described in 1997, is known to occur in both genders with equal predilection occurring in middle aged females and older males. In this study, a case of vaginal cellular angiofibroma was reported in a 30 year old female presenting with secondary infertility. The case was diagnosed based on morphology and immunohistochemistry and was treated surgically. The interesting feature of the case was the rarity of its incidence at the vagina and its resemblance to other benign and more aggressive tumours in the same site. Cellular angiofibromas are benign tumours, which rarely occur in vagina. Although middle aged females are affected more, cellular angiofibromas can affect females of reproductive age group and can cause secondary infertility. These tumours need to be distinguished from other benign tumours and aggressive tumours occurring in the same site

ABSTRACT

A 78-year-old male patient presented with an inguinoscrotal nodule that had lasted for 3 years. The patient reported a past medical history of hydrocele formation. The final diagnosis was fibrous pseudotumor of the paratesticular region, which was based on a histopathological examination and immunohistochemical findings. The aim of this case report is to spread awareness and recognition of neoplastic and non-neoplastic entities that occur in the paratesticular region.
