ABSTRACT
Este trabalho é uma revisão de literatura sobre a síndrome da combinação, inicialmente descrita por Kelly, em 1972. Este quadro acomete pacientes portadores de prótese total superior que antagonizam com arcadas classe I de Kennedy. Caracteriza-se por intensa reabsorção óssea em região de pré-maxila decorrente de hábitos mastigatórios inadequados. Observa-se, por conseguinte, uma série de patologias que completam o quadro clínico. Um correto diagnóstico e tratamento podem impedir ou atenuar a evolução da doença. A indicação de cirurgias pré-protéticas, próteses convencionais ou sobreimplantes dependerá da condição específica do paciente.
This paper is a literature review of the combination syndrome, first described by Kelly in 1972. This clinical condition affects patients with upper dentures that antagonize Kennedy';s class I arch. It is characterized by intense bone resorption in pre- -maxillary region due to inadequate chewing habits. There are therefore a number of pathologies that complete the syndrome. A correct diagnosis and treatment can prevent or attenuate disease progression. The indication of pre-prosthetic surgery, conventional prostheses or implants will depend on the specific condition of the patient.
