ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the prevalence of anemia among students aged 6-15 years old participated in the Nutrition Improvement Program for Rural Compulsory Education Program in 2012-2021 in Hunan Province, and to explore associated factors.@*Methods@#A cluster random sampling method was used. The survey was conducted among compulsory education students who came from counties in Hunan Province where nutrition improvement plan and key surveillance were carried out. Height and weight were measured, hemoglobin, dietary habits and health knowledge were collected.@*Results@#Since the implementation of nutrition improvement plan in 2012, the anemia rate decreased from 12.8% to 9.3%, the average hemoglobin content decreased from 133.9 g/L to 130.0 g/L. The proportion of students eating meat every day increased from 20.4% to 47.3%. Students eating three or more servings of table tennis ball size of meal increased from 21.4% to 47.3%. The proportion of students eating more than three kinds of vegetables per day was 39.1% in 2016 and 32.6% in 2019, and less than 30% in other years. The proportion of students eating three or more servings of table tennis ball size of vegetables increased from 19.5% to 39.6%, and the proportion of students eating snack less than once a day increased from 13.1% to 76.9%. The proportion of students drinking beverages less than once a day increased from 36.5% to 90.7%. Girls, older than 12 years, not eating meat every day, and who eat less than 1 serving of table tennis ball size of meat, eat less than 3 servings of table tennis ball size of vegetables and fruit at one time, and who eat less than 3 kinds of vegetables every day, and those who grow slowly had higher risk of anemia. Potential factors of anemia in students varied by survey year.@*Conclusion@#The implementation of the compulsory education has improved the nutritional status of compulsory education students in rural areas of Hunan Province, but anemia still occurs. Potential factors associated with childhood anemia are changing. Child health literacy education should adapt to the changing social and economic enviornment, as well as lifestyles. Targeted and appropriate nutritional education and intervention are greatly needed.

ABSTRACT

@#To investigate the neuroprotective effect and possible mechanism of masitinib on cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats, healthy adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into sham group (n = 12), model group (n = 12), masitinib low dosage group (n = 12), masitinib middle dosage group (n = 12), and masitinib high dosage group (n = 12). All rats was subjected to middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) for two hours and reperfusion except sham group, and received treatment twice per day for 7 days once reperfusion started.Neurological score, infarct volume, and brain water content were detected; some autophagic markers, apoptotic and inflammatory cytokines were evaluated by Western blot and PCR after 7 d of reperfusion. Treatment with masitinib significantly ameliorated neurologic deficit, infarct volume and brain water after I/R injury. Masitinib also decreased the ratio of LC3II/I and the expression of Beclin-1 and increased the expression of p62 in the brain tissues of rats with I/R injury.Furthermore, it could inhibit apoptosis-related proteins and NF-κB expression. Masitinib could relieve the cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats through inhibiting autophagy and apoptosis.

ABSTRACT

@#[Abstract] Objective: To investigate the effect of miR-3195 on the proliferation of laryngeal carcinoma Hep-2 cells and its molecular mechanism. Methods: From January 2008 to August 2012, the laryngeal cancer tissues and their corresponding paracancerous tissues from 29 patients with laryngeal cancer who were admitted to the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Chenzhou First People's Hospital Affiliated to teaching hospital of University of South China were selected for this study. qPCR was used to detect the expression of miR-3195 in laryngeal carcinoma and the paracancerous tissues; Hep-2 cell line with stable and high expression of miR-3195 was constructed. The proliferation of miR-3195 over-expressed Hep-2 cells and the control cells was observed by MTT method. A nude mouse xenograft model was established to observe the proliferation of miR-3195 overexpressed Hep-2 cells in nude mice. Bioinformatics tools were used to predict the target gene of miR-3195; the luciferase vector of TBX1 3'UTR was constructed, and its luciferase activity was examined with dual luciferase detection system; Western blotting was used to detect the TBX1 protein expression in miR-3195 over-expressed cells and control cells. Results: The expression of miR-3195 in laryngeal carcinoma tissues was significantly lower than that in paracancerous tissues (P<0.01); miR-3195 up-regulation could inhibit the proliferation of Hep-2 cells (P<0.01) and significantly inhibit the growth of transplanted tumors in nude mice (P<0.05); The results of the Dual luciferase reporter gene assay indicated that miR-3195 might targetedly bind to TBX1 (P<0.05), and Western blotting proved that miR-3195 could inhibit the expression of TBX1 protein (P<0.05). Conclusion: miR-3195 has a significant inhibitory effect on the proliferation of Hep-2 cells, and its molecular mechanism may be related to the negative regulation of TBX1 expression.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the clinical application of flow-through deep inferior epigastric perforator flaps for reconstruction of large defects at the extremities.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The deep inferior and superior epigastric arteries were designed as the axial vessel and the arterial supply to the flap was the paraumbilical perforator artery. Free deep inferior epigastric perforator flaps were harvested in flow- through manners to reconstruct associated arterial defect in the wound. The sensation assessment,Enneking score, and questionnaire of the flap aesthetic were all performed during follow-up period.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>From December 2011 to September 2012, 5 patients with large defects at extremities were treated. The deep inferior and superior epigastric arteries were designed as the axial vessel and the arterial supply to the flap was the paraumbilical perforator artery. The wound defects ranged form 11 cm x 5 cm to 30 cm x 11 cm. And the flap size ranged from 13 cm x7 cm to 33 cm x 13 cm. All flaps survived completely. The recipient arteries were all bypassed well documented by color Doppler examinations. All cases had 12-24 months' follow-up period. The flaps had good appearance and high aesthetic satisfactory(100%). 12 months after operations, sensation assessment were all S3+, and the Enneking score ratios were 82%-95% ,with 87.2% in average.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Flow-through deep inferior epigastric perforator flaps are reliable and effective for reconstruction of large defects at the extremities with maintenance of the vascular status of the extremities. The flaps can also be designed in transverse or oblique mode for clinical application.</p>

ABSTRACT

In order to investigate the biological function of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1)during fibrosis in denervated skeletal muscle,we recruited sciatic nerve injury model of SD rats in which denervated gastrocnemius was isolated for analysis. At different time points after operation, denervated muscle was examined by several methods.Masson trichrome staining showed morphological changes of denervated skeletal muscle.Quantitative RT-PCR detected the rapid increase of TGF-β1 expression at mRNA level after nerve injury. It was found that a peak of TGF-β1 mRNA expression appeared one week post-operation.The expression of collagen Ⅰ (COL Ⅰ ) mRNA was up-regulated in the nerve injury model as well, and reached highest level two weeks post-injury.Immunoblot revealed similar expression pattern of TGF-β1 and COL Ⅰ in denervated muscles at protein level. In addition,we found that the area of the gastrocnemius muscle fiber was decreased gradually along with increased interstitital fibrosis.Interestingly, this pathological change could be prevented,at least partly,by local injection of TGF-β1 antibodies, which could be contributed to the reduced production of COL Ⅰ by inhibiting function of TGF-β1.Taken together,in this study,we demonstrated that the expression of TGF-β1 was increased significantly in denervated skeletal muscle, which might play a crucial role during muscle fibrosis after nerve transection.
