ABSTRACT
A Sociologia do Esporte ainda se constitui um tema de estudo e investigação relativamente recente nas Ciências Sociais, tendo se iniciado em torno dos anos 60, especialmente nos países europeus e nos Estados Unidos. Para muitos estudiosos do esporte e da educação física ainda se constitui uma área de pouca familiaridade. Este artigo procura, pois, apresentar e debater uma breve introdução sobre alguns dos temas tratados e das inúmeras possibilidades de pesquisa a serem exploradas e desenvolvidas pela Sociologia do Esporte. Trata-se de um breve panorama introdutório das inúmeras questões de investigação neste campo do saber, podendo ser salientada a importância, o sentido e o significado das práticas esportivas no mundo atual, as funções por ele desenvolvidas, sua relação com as diferentes estruturas sociais, suas formas de organização e controle, as controvérsias geradas, os temas emergentes e as questões mais recentes que tem sido estudadas neste campo de investigações e pesquisa.
Sociology of Sport is still a subject of study and research in Social Sciences relatively recent, having started around 60 years, especially in European countries and the United States. For many scholars of sport and physical education this area still constitutes an area of unfamiliarity. This article therefore seeks to present and discuss a brief introduction to some of the topics discussed and the many research possibilities to be explored and developed by the Sociology of Sport. This is a brief introductory overview of the research questions in this field of knowledge, which can be highlighted the importance, meaning and significance of sports in today's world, the functions it developed, its relationship with different social structures, their forms of organization and control, the controversies generated, emerging issues and recent issues that have been studied in this field of investigations and research.
