Phaeosphaeria microscopica (Karsen) O.Eriksson, is reported herein for the first time growing on "hair grass" (Deschampsia antarctica Desv.), one of the both two unique native Antarctic living grass. It is characterised by the sub epidermal, usually globose and ostiolate, reddish-brown ascomata, 8-spored, fissitunicate asci, and four-celled, smooth-walled, fusiform to clavate, reddish-brown ascospores, without gelatinous sheath.
