ABSTRACT

Partindo da experiência humana, conforme indicação husserliana, será o estudo do ato a revelar a pessoa e o significado moral do agir humano.

This paper aims to study the relationship between anthropology and ethics in the thought of Karol Wojtyla. K. Wojtyla's personalist anthropology highlights the ontological relationship between the moment of being and acting, which, in turn, corresponds to the moral meaning of the relationship between the person and the action. Starting from human experience, as indicated by Husserlian, it will be the study of the act that reveals the person and the moral meaning of human action. The qualitative nature of this bibliographical research, based on works and articles published by K. Wojtyla, and on the writings of some of his main commentators, will allow, in light of the contributions of phenomenology and the philosophical tradition, to also contribute to the contemporary anthropological debate, so necessary to support the studies of the human sciences, as well to overcome the current human crisis, usually marked by a reductionist or utilitarian view of the human person, as will be demonstrated.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Introduction As the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic unfolds around the world; answers related to the antibody response against the virus are necessary to develop treatment and prophylactic strategies. We attempted to understand part of the immune response of convalescent plasma donation candidates. Method We carried out a cross-sectional, observational, non-intervention study, testing 102 convalescent plasma donation candidates for antibodies against the virus, relating these data to the time interval between symptom onset and sample collection, age, disease severity, and gender. Results In our sample, the individuals who developed a greater antibody response were the ones who had a longer time interval between symptom onset and sample collection, the ones who had been hospitalized and the subjects above 35 years old. Moreover, 17 individuals did not present any reactive antibodies. Conclusion These results are important in that they raise questions about the role of the humoral response against the virus, as some individuals do not develop antibodies to fight it. In addition, they help develop recruitment strategies for convalescent plasma donors, who should be asymptomatic for at least 21 days and are possibly more likely to have reactive antibodies after 35 days without symptoms.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Background: C-reactive protein is one of the best marker for the assessment and monitoring of inflammatory diseases; the recommended reference values for its serum concentration are not gender-adjusted. Objective: To determine whether C-reactive protein concentration differs by gender. Methodology: An exploratory study was conducted on 3199 patient samples from Camilo Cienfuegos General Provincial Hospital and a control group of 76 serum samples from blood donors of each gender from the Sancti Spíritus Blood Bank. Levels were measured by a semi-quantitative latex particle agglutination assay for the presumed diseased sample and a quantitative immunoturbidimetric assay for the presumed healthy sample. Mean levels were compared between genders in each using Student's t-test for independent samples. Results: The mean of C-reactive protein levels in the male and female gender of the supposedly diseased sample was 3.49 mg/L and 3.41 mg/L respectively. In the control group the mean comparison of C-reactive protein levels between genders was 1.38 mg/L for males and 1.94 mg/L for females. Conclusion: No significant gender differences were found in the presumed ill sample, nor in the control group.

ABSTRACT

In Covian?s thoughts we can see a particular contribution from three contemporary authors, read and commented by him, and that are representatives of three different areas of knowledge Teilhard de Chardin, José Ortega y Gasset and Thomas Merton. The theoretical and witness importance of these authors in Covian?s thoughts become evident in the close relation of ideas among them and in the citations about the authors in his articles. The study of this relation allowed us to deepen into the conception of humanism in Covian and identify his main theoretical matrixes.(AU)
