ABSTRACT

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, transversal con el objetivo de identificar varios factores causantes deincomodidad en niños, en seis hospitales de Medellin. La muestra estuvo constituida por 65 niños de ambos sexos con edades entre siete y catorce años, durante los meses de marzo y abril de 2004. Se excluyeron los niños enfermos graves, con deterioro de conciencia o retardo mental. La información se obtuvo a través de una encuesta que tomó datos de la historia y otros que se indagaron en el niño. Las variables analizadas fueron: edad, sexo, estrato socioeconómico, diagnóstico, tiempo depermanencia, ruidos, temperatura ambiental, planta fisica, vestido, comportamiento del personal ycompañíadurante la hospitalización. Los resultados indicaron que la mayoría penenecía al estrato dos, de sexo masculino, con un promedio de 9.6 años, con buenos niveles de escolaridad y hospitalizados durante un promedio de 4.4 días. Los problemas médicos encontrados con mayor frecuencia fueron quirúrgicos, enfermedad médica general y enfermedades infecciosas.Les incomodaba e! ruido proveniente de las personas, el calor de la habitación, la falta de espacio para el acompañante, la carencia de un sitio para guardar pertenencias. Les disgustaba el malgenio y los regaños de los funcionarios, que no les explicaban los procedimientos y que hicieran salir a los padres. Prefirieron lacompañía de los papás durante la hospitalización, las batas blancas del personal de salud y las tocas de lasenfenneras.


A descriptive transverse srudy /Vas performed in order to identify several factors that may cause discomfortto hospitalized children, in six hospitals ofMedellin. The sample included 65 children, both male and female, between seven and fourteen years old, during themonths ofMarch and April of2004. Children in a critical condition, with impaired leve! ofconsciousness or mental retardation were excludedfrom the srudy. The information was collected through a survey applied to the medical chart and through an interview with the child. The analyzed variables were: age, gender, socioeconomic leve!, diagnosis, days of hospitalization, noises,room temperarure, facilities and location, outfits, behavior and company ofthe staffduring the hospitalization. The results indicated that most of the children belong to a low socioeconomic leve!, most of them were boys, aged 9.6 years in average, and attended to school.The average time ofhospitalization /Vas 4.4 dayso The medical isslles most freqllently found were surgical,general medical illness and infectious illness. They were bothered by noise coming from variolls people in other rooms, by their own room heat, the lackof space for the fan1ily companion and the absence of a place to keep their belongings. They disliked the irritability and the scolding from the staff, the absence ofexplanation about the proceedings and the fact of asking their parents to leave the room. They prefer the company of their parents during hospitalization, as well as the staff's white robes and the nurses' hato.
