ABSTRACT

Abstract The aim of this qualitative research was to analyze the influence of the passage for a shelter in the process of reconstruction of life project of ex-sheltered women ex-sheltered by situation of extreme violence. A group of six women who were housed in a shelter were interviewed. Data analysis was performed through the Grounded Theory together with Atlas.ti 7.0 software. The results showed that in the passage through the shelter there were initial difficulties, such as a feeling of imprisonment, difficulty in adapting to the rules and the not knowing about what happened outside the place. On the other hand, the participants mentioned that the shelter experience was a moment of learning, reflections and development of autonomy and self-confidence. This assisted them in the reconstruction of their life projects in relational, affective, professional and health level, developing strategies to face difficult situations in their daily life. It is necessary to improve public policies through the development of effective spaces in shelters that provide elements for the reconstruction of women's life projects and their follow-up after leaving the shelter with a view to preventing violence.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Introduction Professionals working with victims of gender-based violence are exposed to highly stressing situations that can cause physical, psychological, and emotional health problems. Designing and implementing personal and institutional self-care measures is fundamental to address this problem. Objectives a) To describe and analyze the repercussions of working with victims of violence on care professionals; b) to describe and analyze the factors that negatively affect the workers' health and; c) to describe and analyze the personal and institutional care practices performed to mitigate those consequences. Method We used a qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory design in the framework of the grounded theory. The instrument used was a semi-structured interview created for this study. Twenty professionals involved in interventions with victims of gender-based violence were interviewed. Results The results of this study show that professionals who work with care for victims of gender violence are victims of physical (tics, headaches, musculoskeletal problems, somatizations, etc.) and psychological (restlessness, insomnia, anxiety, etc.) problems related to their professional practice. The participants relate their health problems to variables such as the emotional impact of the issue, conflicts in the teams, and the job insecurity in the social sector. Discussion and conclusion The occupational hazard prevention plans that public and private institutions implement need to include personal and institutional care measures to protect the health of the workers and the quality of the care provided.

ABSTRACT

Inequalities between women and men persist in organizations in spite of political and social efforts to fight this phenomenon. Gender equality certifications have been recognized in Spain as one of the political measures aimed at combating gender imbalances since the promulgation of the organic Law nº 3/2007 on effective equality of women and men. This article aims to identify the approaches adopted by public and private organizations that are responsible to promote gender equality certifications in response to gender mainstreaming implementation. Content analysis of publications related to gender certifications was carried out. The results show that in many cases these certifications are granted disregarding essential indicators to implement the gender mainstreaming approach. Similarly, they have been used to boost profit since it indicates a distinguishing quality of these organizations.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to analyze the repercussions of sheltering in the family dynamics of women in situations of violence. This is a qualitative study in which 12 Brazilian women who were given shelter due to have suffered from violence were interviewed. The data organization and analysis was supported by the Grounded Theory, with the help of Atlas.ti software. Before being in the shelter, the study revealed the hardening of family relations and breaking of affectional bonds as well feelings of anxiety, depression, shame, fear and humiliation. Their permanence in the shelter helped the women to create strategies of coping with violence, which in turn, contributed to their reintegration in society as well as the recovery of their dignity and citizenship.
