ABSTRACT
Los odontólogos, en su ejercicio profesional, se ven comprometidos a afrontar situaciones particulares en relación a los pacientes, para lo cual deben estar preparados para manejarlas y prevenirlas. El dolor es el síntoma con mayor prevalencia. Desde un dolor físico, o un dolor de origen psicológico, hasta una combinación de ambos, en donde se refuerzan. En este sentido, merece especial atención el tratamiento del paciente con dolor, y resulta asertivo apoyarse en ciencias como la Bioética para acercarnos desde un enfoque más preciso. Se trata de reconocer y respetar al paciente como persona, con sus proyectos de vida, dignidad, miedos y valores. La relación odontólogo-paciente se equilibra entre el manejo científico y el carácter humanístico para tratar a quienes sufren de dolor, y nos han confiado la recuperación de la salud. Es fundamental el acercamiento a la vivencia y experiencia emocional de la enfermedad que padecen los pacientes, como parte del alivio del sufrimiento humano, más allá de un enfoque únicamente científico
Dentists, in their professional practice, are committed to meet specific situations in relation to patients, for which they should be prepared to handle them and prevent them. Pain is the most prevalent symptom. From a physical pain, or pain of psychological origin, to a combination of both, where they are reinforced. In this regard, special attention to the treatment of patients with pain, and assertive is supported by science as to approach bioethics from a focus. It is about recognizing and respecting the patient as a person, their plans of life, dignity, fears and values. The dentist-patient relationship is balanced between the scientific management and humanistic to treat those who suffer from pain, and we have entrusted the restoration of health. Approach is essential to the experience and emotional experience of the illness suffered by patients as part of the alleviation of human suffering, beyond just scientific approach
