ABSTRACT
Urological complications are not usually found in orthopedic surgery, mainly in total hip arthroplasty. When they occur, infection and urinary retention are more commonly seen. However due to their low severity and well-defined therapeutics, they do not represent a major concern. More severe complications, like lesion of pelvic organs, are rare, but when they occur they cause an increase in morbidity and mortality. In this case report, the authors present three cases of serious urological complications related to total hip arthroplasty performed in the Santa Casa Hospitalar Complex in Porto Alegre, Brazil. There is no similar publication in the Brazilian literature.
