ABSTRACT

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal sobre la utilización de las bases de datos biomédicas en la biblioteca de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas No.1 de Santiago de Cuba, en el período de febrero a marzo de 2009. En la semana del 9 al 14 de este último mes se escogió a 138 usuarios que solicitaron los servicios de la sala de navegación: búsqueda bibliográfica, actualización de antivirus y consulta de los contenidos disponibles en la intranet, pues esa fue la semana de mayor afluencia al local. Solo 13,8 por cientohabían recibido cursos de adiestramiento para acceder a esas fuentes, 70,0 por ciento desconocían que existieran y 81,9 por ciento no las consultaban. Entre los principales problemas identificados se hallaban: disponer de una conexión defectuosa, no haber sido adiestrados por las bibliotecarias y contar con insuficiente tiempo de máquina. Se recomendó impartir cursos de alfabetización informacional para que lograsen satisfacer por sí mismos sus demandas de información en biomedicina


A descriptive and cross-sectional study on the use of biomedical databases at the library of the Medical College No.1 of Santiago de Cuba was conducted from February to March 2009. From March 9th to 14th, 138 users that requested services of the navigation room were selected: literature search, antivirus updating and references of the available contents on the intranet, because that was the busiest week of the room. Only 13,8 per cent had received training courses for access to those sources, 70,0 per cent were unaware of the existence of them, and 81,9 per cent were not using them. Among the main identified problems were a faulty connection, not having been trained by the librarians and not having enough time on the computer. It was recommended information literacy courses so that users are able to comply by themselves with their demands of information in biomedicine

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, transversal y retrospectivo sobre la experiencia preliminar con un programa de alfabetización informacional aplicado en el Hospital Provincial Docente Saturnino Lora de Santiago de Cuba, desde febrero del 2009 hasta igual mes del 2010, con vista a evaluar las competencias informacionales de los profesionales de la salud para acceder a la información cientificomédica en la institución, identificar sus necesidades de aprendizaje y capacitarles sobre la base de los resultados obtenidos. Se valoraron los beneficios de los cursos impartidos en 8 servicios de diferentes especialidades, donde participaron 143 cursistas, y se pudo confirmar que las instrucciones emitidas permitieron modificar el nivel de conocimiento sobre la búsqueda de los documentos deseados, a medida que fueron capaces de aplicar las distintas habilidades adquiridas


A descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study was carried out on the preliminary experience with a program of informational literacy applied in Saturnino Lora Teaching Provincial Hospital in Santiago de Cuba, from February, 2009 to the same month of 2010, with the aim of evaluating the informational competences of the health professionals to have access to the scientific and medical information in the institution, to identify their learning necessities and to train them on the base of the obtained results. The benefits of the delivered courses were evaluated in 8 services of different specialties, in which 143 health professionals participated, and it could be confirmed that the delivered instructions allowed to modify the level of knowledge on the search of documents, as they were able to apply the different acquired abilities
