ABSTRACT

Methods@#Forty AIS patients were recruited. Demographic, preoperative, and postoperative data were recorded. The magnitude and characteristics of postoperative pain were assessed using the painDETECT questionnaire through telephone enquiries at intervals of 2, 6, 12, and 24 weeks. Statistical analyses were followed by Pearson correlation test to determine the relationship between pain scores at 6, 12, and 24 weeks with the risk factors. @*Results@#Based on the painDETECT questionnaire, 90% of the patients had nociceptive pain, and 10% had a possible neuropathic pain component at 2 weeks postoperatively as per a mean painDETECT score of 7.1±4.5. Assessments at 6, 12, and 24 weeks showed that no patients had neuropathic pain with painDETECT scores of 4.4±3.2, 2.9±2.9, and 1.5±2.0, respectively. There was a significant correlation between total postoperative morphine use during 48 hours after the surgery and a tendency to develop neuropathic pain (p=0.022). @*Conclusions@#Chronic neuropathic pain was uncommon in AIS patients who had undergone PSF surgery. Higher opioid consumption will increase the possibility of developing chronic neuropathic pain.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the expression of class IIIβ-tubulin (TUBB3) in advanced gastric cancer and analyze its correlation with the chemotherapeutic effect of paclitaxel and the prognosis of patients. Methods:This study reviewed 49 cases with advanced gastric cancer, diagnosed from December 2008 to December 2011 at Shaoyang Central Hospital. All patients were treated with paclitax-el or docetaxel-based chemotherapy. TUBB3 expression was determined using immunohistochemistry. Relationships of the expression of TUBB3 protein with chemotherapy response, progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) were analyzed. Results:Among the 46 valid cases treated with paclitaxel or docetaxel-based regimen, treatment response was as follows:complete response (CR) in 1 patient, partial response (PR) in 17 patients, stable disease (SD) in 22 patients, and progression disease (PD) in 6 patients. The overall response rate (CR+PR) was 39.13%(18/46). The chemotherapy response rates in low and high TUBB3 expression groups were 54.17%(13/24) and 22.73%(5/22), respectively (χ2=4.736, P=0.029). The patients with low TUBB3 expression had significantly longer median PFS and OS than those with high TUBB3 expression (PFS 5.9 vs. 3.9 months, P=0.032;OS 11.6 vs. 7.9 months, P=0.001). Univar-iate analysis and multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that the expression of TUBB3 was an independent prognostic factor in advanced gastric cancer. Conclusions:The present study demonstrates that TUBB3 expression in advanced gastric cancer is associated with chemotherapy response and prognosis;especifically, the low expression group had a better chemotherapy response and progno-sis than the high expression group. The result of this study may provide a new sight for tailored chemotherapy and for predicting prog-nosis of individuals with advanced gastric cancer.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the role of quality control circle(QCC) in reducing operation-related acute pressure ulcer. Methods The QCC activity group composed by 13 nursing staff analyzed the current situation and causality of operation-related acute pressure ulcer, and made the pointed counter measures to reducing the incidence rate. Results Following the development of QCC activity, the incidence rate of operation-related acute pressure ulcer decreased from 1.83% to 0.73%. The sense of responsibility, communication, teamwork, motivation, quality control ability and harmony of all the group members were improved significantly after the activity. Conclusions The QCC activity could not only effectively reduced the incidence rate of operation-related acute pressure ulcer, but also consolidated our team spirit and enhanced the quality management capability of all team members.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the clinical value of prenatal ultrasound in the diagnosis of inferior vena cava malformation. Methods The ultrasonographic features of 95 cases of fetal inferior vena cava malformation were retrospectively analyzed, and compared with autopsy or postpartum follow-up.Results Among the 95 cases of fetal inferior vena cava malformation,39 cases were confirmed by autopsy,56 cases were diagnosed by neonatal ultrasonography,5 cases were confirmed by angiography or operation.Among them,37 cases were interrupted inferior vena cava,37 cases were double inferior vena cava,21 cases were left inferior vena cava.Forty of the 95 cases were terminate pregnancy(due to intracardiac or extracardiac malformations)or neonatal deaths(42.1%),and 55 cases had good prognoses(57.9%).Conclusions Prenatal ultrasound has important clinical value in diagnosing of inferior vena cava malformation, clearing whether it is associated with other malformations and assessing fetal prognosis.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVEThis study was to investigate the growth and proliferation characteristics of rat bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) isolated by the method of whole bone marrow culture and to explore the effect of cell inoculation density and incubation period on cell proliferation, with an aim to provide multipotential seed cells for preventing from degenerative disease.

METHODSBone mesenchymal stem cells were isolated by the method of whole bone marrow culture and then cultured in vitro. The cell morphologic features were observed by inverted microscope. The cell surface antigens were identified by flow cytometry. The effect of cell inoculation density and culture period on cell growth and proliferation was explored by analyzing the characteristics of a ten-day cell growth curve in 96-well plates.

RESULTSFlow cytometry results showed the detection rates for CD29, CD34 and CD45 were 97.68% (7607/7788), 7.93% (661/8340) and 2.76% (215/7788) respectively, which was consistent with the expression characteristics of BMSCs surface antigens. BMSCs became uniform after three cell passages, existing in a typical shape of whirlpool or radial colony. The senescent cells started to appear at 7(th) passage, and more senescent cells were found at 10(th) passage. The growth curve for moderate inoculation density was typically S-shaped. Lag phase was found during the first two days, and logarithm growth phase was in the following three days. Plateau phase started from the 6(th) day and cell numbers decreased slightly from the 8(th) day.

CONCLUSIONThe whole bone marrow culture is an effective way to obtain BMSCs. A moderate inoculation density was more advantageous to cell proliferation, by which more seed cells could be obtained.
