ABSTRACT

Objective@#To explore the relationship between eHealth literacy and social support and depressive symptoms in female nursing students, and to provide a reference for improving the mental health of female nursing students.@*Methods@#In November 2019, 1 115 female nursing students from freshmen to junior years in four medical colleges in Changsha were investigated eHealth Literacy Scale, Perceived Social Support Scale, Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scales and demographic information questionnaire.@*Results@#The detection rate of depressive symptoms in female nursing students was 20.1%(224/1 115), and the qualification rate of eHealth literacy was 29.2%(326/1 115). The incidence of depressive symptoms were higher in female nursing students with urban household registration and their parents with high school education and above and poor family economic status(χ2=9.46, 20.02, 7.16, 12.40, P<0.05). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that poor eHealth literacy and low social support were positively correlated with depressive symptoms in female nursing students(OR=3.16, 3.65, P<0.05). There was a correlation between the interaction of eHealth literacy and social support with depressive symptoms. In the same type of social support, the lower eHealth literacy level, the greater the risk of depressive symptoms was for female nursing students(P<0.05).@*Conclusion@#Health literacy and social support are the influencing factors of depressive symptoms in female nursing students. The occurrence of depressive symptoms can be reduced by improving the level of electronic health literacy and social support.

ABSTRACT

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the inhibitory effects of Brucea javanica oil oral emulsion (BJOOE) on primary liver cancer induced by diethylnitrosamine (DEN). Methods:Rats were randomly divided into the control group, model group, and BJOOE group. Rats were given free access to water. DEN was administered intragastrically to induce liver cancer in rats. Five weeks later, rats were intragastrically administered with BJOOE for five times per week. The rats were killed after 14 weeks. Abdominal aortic blood samples were collected. The contents of ALT, AST, ALP, γ-GT, and AFP of serum were detected by an automatic biochemical analyzer. The liver index, spleen index, thymus index, and changes in liver cancer nodules of the surface were observed in rats. Changes in the number of liver cancer nodules of the surface were detected by imaging. Results:Compared with the control group, the liver index, spleen index, and number of nodules of the model group significantly increased, whereas the thymus index significantly decreased (P<0.01). The levels of ALT, AFP, AST, ALP, andγ-GT of serum in the model group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, BJOOE significantly reduced the liver index, spleen index, and number of cancer nodules, but increased the thymus index in the liver of rats with cancer (P<0.01). The levels of ALT, AFP, AST, ALP, andγ-GT of serum in rats with hepatic carcinoma significantly improved (P<0.01 or P<0.05). Conclusion:BJOOE could inhibit primary liver cancer, and the underlying mechanisms are complex.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the influence of drug dosage, solvent and other main influencing factors on the successful establishment of alloxan-induced hyperglycemia mouse model and the effect on the stability of this model. Methods 160 6-8-week-old Kunming mice ofSPF grade, (male:female=1:1) were used in this study. The influences of different dosages of alloxan and solvent combinations on the successful establishment rate of the model, survival rate, body weight, fasting blood glucose, blood glucose area under curve, serum insulin level and their stabilities were dynamically observed for six weeks. Results By single intraperitoneal injection of 160 mg/kg bw alloxan ( pH 4.5 citrate sodium as solvent) , we were able to obtain a stable experimental hyperglycemic mouse model with higher levels of successful establishment rate (70%), survival rate (75%), fasting blood glucose (15-20 mmol/L), glucose area under the curve (55-65 mmol/L) and a lower but not loss of serum insulin levels (21 mIU/L).Conclusions In the present study we have carefully considered the influence of main factors such as drug dosages, solvent, etc., on the alloxan-induced experimental hyperglycemic mouse model, and successfully established this model after 6-week period observation of its stability. This model may provide a useful tool in the research of experimental diabetes and hypoglycemic functional studies.

ABSTRACT

In normal rat forebrain, the NR1/NR2A and NR1/NR2B dimmers are the main constitutional forms of NMDA receptors. The present study was carried out to determine the functional properties of the heteromeric NMDA receptor subunits and their inhibition by bis(7)-tacrine (B7T). Rat NR1, NR2A and NR2B cDNAs were transfected into human embryonic kidney 293 cells (HEK-293). The inhibition of NMDA-activated currents by B7T was detected in HEK-293 cell expressing NR1/NR2A or NR1/NR2B receptors by using whole-cell patch-clamp techniques. The results showed that in HEK-293 cells expressing NR1/NR2A receptor, 1 μmol/L B7T inhibited 30 μmol/L NMDA- and 1000 μmol/L NMDA-activated steady-state currents by 46% and 40%, respectively (P>0.05; n=5), suggesting that the inhibition of B7T on NR1/NR2A receptor doesn't depend on NMDA concentration, which is consistent with a non-competitive mechanism of inhibition. But for the NR1/NR2B receptor, 1 μmol/L B7T inhibited 30 μmol/L NMDA- and 1000 μmol/L NMDA-activated steady-state currents by 61% and 13%, respectively (P<0.05; n=6), showing that B7T appears to be competitive with NMDA. In addition, simultaneous application of 1 μmol/L B7T and 1000 μmol/L NMDA produced a moderate inhibition of peak NMDA-activated current, followed by a gradual decline of the current to a steady state. However, the gradual onset of inhibition produced by B7T applied simultaneously with NMDA was eliminated when B7T was given 5 s before NMDA. These results suggested that B7T inhibition of NMDA current mediated by NR1/NR2B receptor was slow onset, and it did not depend on the presence of the agonist. With holding potentials ranging from -50 to +50 mV, the B7T inhibition rate of NMDA currents didn't change significantly, and neither did the reversal potential. We are led to conclude that the NR1/NR2B recombinant receptor can serve as a very useful model for studying the molecular mechanism of NMDA receptor inhibition by B7T.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the mechanisms underlying neuroprotection of silent information regulation 2 homolog 3 ( SIRT3 ) against hypoxia via preconditioning. Methods PG12 cells were randomly divided into control, hypoxic preconditioning ( Hyp),Hyp with oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) and OGD.MTT assay and DAPI staining were used to evaluate cellular viability.MitoSOX Red was used to measure the production of mitochondrial superoxide. The protein expression of SIRT3,PGC-1α and MnSOD were assessed by Western blot.Recombinant SIRT3 was also given to further investigate its roles in hypoxic preconditioning. Results The preconditioned PC12 cells had a higher survival rate. When expressed as a percentage of the control group,MTT values following 6 h OGD were around 51.0% in the OGD group but around 74.7% in the Hyp + OGD group ( F = 56,P < 0.01).Mitochondrial ROS after Hyp was less than the OGD group. Both Hyp + OGD and OGD increased the expression of SIRT3,PGC-1α and MnSOD proteins, and these increases were greater after Hyp + OGD.Similarly, the application of recombinant SIRT3 to OGD also further increased the expression of these proteins. Conclusions Hypoxic preconditioning can protect PC12 cells against hypoxic injury. One possible mechanism of hypoxic preconditioning is via SIRT3 to upregulate PGC-la and,in turn,MnSOD to reduce generation of ROS.

ABSTRACT

The change of Psa and Ppa was observed during injection of 5-HT into the lateral ventricle of brain or the auricular vein of anesthetized rabbits. Increase of Ppa and decrease of Psa were found after injection through auricular vein. On the contrary, while 5-HT was injected into lateral ventricule there were increased of Psa and decreased of Ppa. The responses of Ppa induced by 5-HT injecting into lateral ventricle might be related to the transmission of vagus and the action of Ach. The opiumnoid substances might take part in the change of Ppa and Psa while 5-HT was injected into lateral ventricle of brain.
