ABSTRACT

Objective: To study the chemical constituents from the roots of Millettia speciosa (Leguminosae). Methods: Compounds in the 95% ethanol extract from the air-dried roots of M. speciosa were isolated by chromatography on silica gel column together with recrystallization, and their structures were identified by their physicochemical characteristics and spectral features. Results: Sixteen components were isolated from the air-dried roots of M. speciosa and identified as 7-oxo-β-sitosterol (1), aurantiamide acetate (2), shionone (3), maleic acid (4), psoralen (5), N-methylcytisine (6), lupeol caffeate (7), bisdemethoxycurcumin (8), vanillic acid (9), syringic acid (10), 6-methoxydihdyrosanguinarine (11), glycyrrhizic acid (12), (E)-3, 3'-dimethoxy-4, 4'-dihydroxystilbene (13), schisandrol B (14), 7-hydroxylathyrol (15), and nardosinone (16). Conclusion: All the compounds are isolated from this plant for the first time, and compounds 3, 7, 8, 11, and 13-16 are isolated from the plants of Leguminosae for the first time, compounds 2, 4-6, 9, 10 are isolated from the plants of Millettia Wight et Arn. for the first time.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To explore the clinical efficacy of traditional Chinese acupuncture combined with conventional rehabilitation therapy onoculomotor nerve palsy patients.METHODS: From May 2005 to September 2012, 110 cases ofoculomotor palsy were divided into treatment group and control group with 55 cases in each group according to different methods of treatment. The control group received rehabilitation therapy, the treatment group received acupuncture combined with rehabilitation therapy. Before and after 8wk treatment, the light reflex, diopter case, eye fissure width, and eye movement to improve the overall efficiency of the situation were observed between the two groups. RESULTS: After treatment of 8wk, light reflex, diopter case, eye fissure width, and eye movement therapy total effective rate of the treatment group were all better than the control group (PCONCLUSION: Acupuncture therapy combined with rehabilitation training method significantly reduces the oculomotor nerve palsy in patients with clinical symptoms and improves the patient's quality of life.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The efficacy of intranasal corticosteroids for the treatment of allergic rhinitis has been reported. But the efficacy of intranasal corticosteroids has not been compared between perennial nonallergic rhinitis (PNAR) and perennial allergic rhinitis (PAR). METHODS: Twenty-three patients with PNAR and 19 patients with PAR were enrolled in this study. Every patient received fluticasone propionate (FP) 200 g (100 g, bid) daily for 4weeks. Control group (n=16) was received only anti-histamine (hydroxyzine 0.6 mg/kg/dose) intermittently. Efficacy of FP was evaluated by the mean change in nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, nasal itching, sneezing and total nasal symptom score (a sum of patient ratings of nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, nasal itching, and sneezing). RESULTS: Both groups (PNAR and PAR) showed similar improvement of nasal symptom with FP 200 g compared with control. (P< 0.05) In the total population, both groups showed significant improvements from baseline in TNSS compared with control during each week of treatment. (P< 0.05) In PNAR and PAR, nasal congestion was significantly improved more than in control. (P< 0.01, P< 0.01) Rhinorrhea and itching in PAR were improved more than in control. (P=0.02, P=0.03) In sneezing, all three groups showed no differences. (P=1.00, P=0.31, P= 0.29) CONCLUSION: Intranasal FP is an effective treatment for perennial nonallergic rhinitis as same as perennial allergic rhinitis.
