ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture, chiropractic plus functional exercise of lumbar and gluteal muscles in treating postpartum sacroiliac malposition.Method Forty patients with postpartum sacroiliac malposition were randomized into group A, group B, group C and group D, 10 cases in each group. Group A was intervened by acupuncture, chiropractic plus functional exercise of lumbar and gluteal muscles, group B by acupuncture plus chiropractic, group C by acupuncture plus functional exercise of lumbar and gluteal muscles, and group D by chiropractic plus functional exercise of lumbar and gluteal muscles. The four groups were intervened once every other day. The modified Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score was observed before and after 5 treatment sessions, and the clinical efficacies in the four groups were compared.Result The total effective rates were 100.0% in the four groups, and the inter-group differences were statistically insignificant (P>0.05). The ODI scores in the four groups were significantly changed after treatment and in the 3-month follow-up study compared with those before the treatment (P<0.05). After the treatment, the ODI score in group B was significantly different from that in the other groups (P<0.05). The ODI scores in group A and B in the 3-month follow-up study were significantly different from those after the treatment in the same group (P<0.05). The ODI score in group A was significantly different from that in the other groups in the 3-month follow-up study (P<0.05). The ODI score in group B in the 3-month follow-up study was significantly different from that in group C and D (P<0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture, chiropractic plus functional exercise of lumbar and gluteal muscles is definitely effective in treating postpartum sacroiliac malposition, acupuncture plus chiropractic can produce a significant short-term efficacy and alleviate the symptoms, and functional exercise of lumbar and gluteal muscle can produce an obvious long-term efficacy.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the therapeutic effect of Governor Vessel-unblocking and yang-regulating acupuncture plus chiropractic treatment on upper cervical spondylosis. Methods:A total of 64 eligible cases were randomly allocated into an observation group (n=32) and a control group (n=32) according to the random digital table. Cases in the observation group were treated with Governor Vessel-unblocking and Yang-regulating needling method, fine adjustment of the upper cervical spine and lumbosacral Ban-pulling manipulation; cases in the control group were treated with routine acupuncture and same spinal adjustment as the observation group. The treatment was done once a day in both groups. The therapeutic efficacies were observed after 10 times of treatment. Results:The total effective rate was 78.1% in the observation group and 67.5% in the control group. The difference in the total effective rate between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion:Governor Vessel-unblocking and yang-regulating acupuncture and regulate yang plus chiropractic therapy is better than routine acupuncture plus chiropractic therapy in the therapeutic effect in the treatment of upper cervical spondylosis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To detect the expression level of miRNA-575 by pancreatic cancer stem cells. Methods Pancreatic cancer cell lines were cultured with serum-free medium. The cancer stem cells were obtained and their characteristics were observed with an invasion assay,a xenograft experiment, and flow cytometry analysis.Moreover,qRT-PCR was used to detect the expression of miR-575.Results A small subpopulation of cells in both ASPC-1 and PANC-1 cells survived and formed spheres in the absence of serum. The mean number of migrated cells of PANC-1 and ASPC-1 spheres was (147.3±18.6) cells and (113.2±12.9) cells. Therefore, the spheres have higher invasive ability compared with those of parental cells. As few as 5 × 105 cells in PANC-1 and ASPC-1 spheres could initiate a xenograft tumor in NOD/SCID mice, which suggested the tumorigenicity of the spheres was 100 times those of parental cell lines. The percentages of CD24+CD44+ in spheres were 0.38%-0.43% and 4.91%-5.21%,which showed increased expression compared with ASPC-1 and PANC-1 cell lines (P<0.05).The expression of miR-575 in spheres was 3.71 and 3.83 times its expression in cell lines ASPC-1 and PANC-1 respectively (P<0.05).Conclusions Pancreatic cancer cell spheres may be a source for collecting cancer stem cells in a serum-free medium culture, and MiR 575 may play an important role in regulating the biological characteristics of pancreatic cancer stem cells.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the clinical selection of surgical methods for pure stenosis at the end of the common bile duct. Methods The clinical data of 43 cases of pure stenosis at the end of the common bile duct treated in this hospital from October 2003 to June 2009 were retrospectively analyzed.Of the 43 cases, 12 underwent endoscopic sphincterotomy(EST), 9 sphincteroplasty of Oddi, 5 pancreaticoduodenectomy,8 Roux-en-y choledochojejunostomy and 5 choledocoduodenostomy,4 underwent drainage of the T tube after exploration of the biliary passage. Results Among 37 patients did not undergo the radical pancreaticoduodenectomy,6 had space-occupying lesions 5-19 months postoperatively.Five of them received pancreaticoduodenectomy again. Conclusion Pure stenosis at the end of the common bile duct should be carefully managed.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the expression of hepatocyte nuclear factor-1α (HNF-1α) and hepatocyte nuclear factor-4α (HNF-4α) in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and explore the function of HNF-1α and HNF-4α during HCC carcinogenesis and development. Methods Twenty-six specimens of hepatocellular carcinoma were collected. The expressions of HNF-1α and HNF-4α in HCC tissues and adjacent non-cancerous tissues were detected by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry staining. Results The mRNA levels of HNF-1α and HNF-4α were significantly lower in HCC tissues than that in adjacent non-cancerous tissues (0.818±0.371 vs. 0.383±0.102 for HNF-1α, P<0.05;0.846±0.384 vs. 0.397±0.105 for HNF-4α, P<0.05).The positive rates of HNF-1α and HNF-4α protein were significantly lower in HCC tissues than in adjacent non-cancerous tissues (92.3% vs. 42.3% for HNF-1α, P<0.05;96.2% vs. 50.0% for HNF-4α, P<0.05). The mRNA and protein expressions of HNF-1α and HNF-4α were correlated with tumor differentiation (P<0.05). There was a negative correlation between HNF-1α and HNF-4α mRNA expressions in HCC tissues. Conclusion The expressions of HNF-1α and HNF-4α are down-regulated in HCC, which might be related to carcinogenesis and development of HCC.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyse the current situation and advance in perioperative therapy of liver transplantation for primary hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Methods The published papers on current situation and advance in the perioperative therapy of liver transplantation for HCC were reviewed. Results The survival rate of liver transplantation for HCC in early stage has been the same as that for benign liver diseases up to now. However, it is still a difficult problem to improve the survival rate of liver transplantation for advanced HCC. The ideal perioperative therapies of liver transplantation for HCC should be helpful to suppress the growth of tumor while the HCC patients are waiting for donated livers, to diminish or eliminate the intraoperative spread or implantation of tumor cells and to repress the micrometastasis postoperatively. The current perioperative therapies of liver transplantation for HCC include hepatic arterial chemoembolization, systemic chemotherapy, radiotherapy, percutaneous ethanol injection into HCC and radiofrequency ablation etc. Conclusion The perioperative assistant therapy of HCC can not only save time for patients before liver transplantation but also improve the survival rate after operation.
