ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo look for optimum extraction techniques for oleuropein by boiling olive leaves at low temperature and reduced pressure.

METHODAccording to single factor experiment (SFE) design, the effects of seven factors, the impact of seven factors, type of solvent, temperature, time, ratio of material to liquid, ethanol concentration, vacuum degree and extraction times, on extraction yield of oleuropein were investigated. Based on the results of SFE, four more important factors, temperature, time, ratio of material to liquid and ethanol concentration, were selected in L9 (3(4)) orthogonal experiment (OE) to compare with those extracted with traditional methods.

RESULTThe optimum conditions for boiling extraction of oleuropein at low temperature and reduced pressure were as follows: temperature 60 degrees C, time 20 min, ratio of material to liquid 1:30 and ethanol concentration 85%. The conditions presented an extraction yield of 5.90%.

CONCLUSIONCompared with traditional extraction methods and the ultrasound assisted extraction method, boiling extraction techniques at low temperature and reduced pressure were so quick and efficient that it has a good application prospect.

ABSTRACT

Objective A surface feedback-stimulation gastric-pacing device was designed to extract gastric surface information, determine the status of gastric and surface stimulation. Methods The characteristic parameters of gastric electrical formed by processing signal and extracting parameter.By that, the state of stomach could be confirmed, and stimulus signal of stomach pace-making in different frequency and intensity could be decided as needed.During the processes of the stimulation, the variations of gastric electrical parameters can be analyzed in real-time and the stimulation parameters could be modified to achieve the self-feedback mode. Results Self-feedback model in different gastric motility analog environment could be realized. Conclusion The preliminary validation of experimental results proved the effectiveness of self-feedback of gastric pacing devices and its application prospects in some areas.

ABSTRACT

Objective To design a wireless transmission solution of multi-parameter vital signs signal which can be applied in psychological status assessment. Methods C8051F350 SOC was used to define data frame structure,on application level, including channel number, control words, data and so on,which put all nodes data into the upper computer cache area by channel in an orderly way.A transfer rate of five seconds on a grid, each grid at least 48 groups of data was chosen in buffer, which could not only match the dynamic PC image display, but also to achieve the stability of the channel signal acquisition and orderly transfer. Results After operating test, with the communication distance within 10~15 m,the dynamical display of the upper computer showed a smooth curve data, which met the system design requirement. After optimization of the data frame, the transmission power could be reduced to 1/12 of that of normal mode. The whole system with three advantages of small size, low power and easy to carry. Conclusion Multi-parameter wireless acquisition system described in this paper eliminates the data line connected to the subjects, which does not affect their normal activities and is conducive to the real response of subjects' mental state, and provides a reliable means of detection for psychological assessment.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in elderly people is becoming increasingly a new hot spot for the clinical study of Alzheimer disease at present, and it is still unknown how many cases of MCI will convert into Alzheimer disease. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the incidence rate of mild cognitive impairment and the conversion rates into dementia and Alzheimer disease among elderly people.DESIGN: A prospective cohort study based on diagnosis. SETTING: Second Department of Cadre's Ward, Bethune International Peace Hospital of Chinese PLA.PARTICIPANTS: The subjects were 216 MCI patients and 2 302 subjects with normal cognition selected in the baseline investigation to the retired cadres aged 60 years and above, in 26 military cadres' sanatoriums of Shijiazhuang city between August and September 2001.METHODS: The MCI diagnosis was according to the MCI diagnostic standard in Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - Fourth Edition (DSM-Ⅳ), and the diagnosis of dementia was according to the standard in DSM-Ⅳ revised by American Psychiatric Association. Alzheimer disease was diagnosed according to the standards of National Institute of Neurological and Communicative Disorders and Stroke/the Alzheimer Disease and Related Disorders Association (NINCDS-ADRDA). All the 216 MCIpatients and 2 302 subjects with normal cognition were enrolled in the 3-year cohort study. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The incidences of MCI among subjects with normal cognition; the annual conversion rates into Alzheimer disease in MCI patients and subjects with normal cognition; the relative risks (RR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) of MCI and normal cognition developing into Alzheimer disease. RESULTS: The MCI group and normal cognition group were followed up once every year for 3 years. Of the 216 MCI patients, 7 died, and 209 were followed up actually, and the follow-up rate was 96.8%. Of the 2 302 subjects with normal cognition, 36 died, and 2 266 were followed up actually, and the follow-up rate was 98.4%. ① In the elderly subjects with normal cognition, the annual incidence of MCI was 4.8%, and those of dementia and Alzheimer disease were 1.3% and 0.8 respectively. ② The annual in cidence rates of dementia and Alzheimer disease in MCI patients were 8.1% and 5.6% respectively, which were insignificantly different between males and females (P > 0.05). ③ The incidence rates of dementia and Alzheimer disease showed a descending trend with the elevation of educational level in both the MCI patients (trend x2 =5.57, P=0.02; trend x2 =4.92, P=0.03) and the subjects with normal cognition (trend x2 =23.1, P< 0.001; trend x2 =18.0, P < 0.001). ④ The annual incidence rates of dementia and Alzheimer disease showed an ascending trend with aging in both the MCI patients (trend x2 =14.6, P < 0.01; trend x2 =13.9, P < 0.01) and the subjects with normal cognition (trend x2 =32.3, P < 0.01; trend x2=23.8, P < 0.01). ⑤ The relative risks of the conversion into dementia and Alz heimer disease in MCI patients were 6.4 and 7.4 times as many as those in the subjects with normal cognition.CONCLUSION: The risks of conversion into dementia and Alzheimer disease in elderly MCI patients are far higher than those in elderly people with normal cognition. It should be reinforced to monitor elderly MCI patients, who are the of high risk group of dementia.

ABSTRACT

Aim To investigate the reversal effect of GP on the activity of P-gp in MDR-associated tumor cells and to develop a useful approach to inhibit the drug efflux in MDR-associated tumor cells. Methods MTT assay was used to detect the effect of GP on the cytotoxicity of cisplatin(DDP),vincristine(VCR) and doxorubicin(DOX).Flow cytometry was used to determine the influence of GP on the intracellular accumulation of DOX.Results GP synergistically increased the cytotoxity and the intracellular accumulation of DOX in K562/DOX cells;GP also increased the cytotoxity of DDP,DOX,and VCR in A549/DOX cells. However, the effect was relatively weak. Conclusion GP could increased the cytotoxity and the intracellular accumulation of chemotherapeutic drugs in MDR-associated tumor cells.GP may be a promising MDR modulator.
